Moral Issues

How would you rate the overall state of moral values in this country today -- as excellent, good, only fair, or poor? Right now, do you think the state of moral values in the country as a whole is getting better or getting worse?

I think the state of moral values in the country TODAY are good. However, I think they are on the decline and are declining at a rather rapid rate. I am nervous about the upcoming mid-term election.

I believe that I may have just answered this on your other poll. Oh, well......

I believe that the morals of this country is falling apart. Sometimes it makes me wonder how much lower can we go, but it seems like something happens and sure enough man-kind finds a way to go lower.

As I posted in the other poll I believe that religion plays a BIG part of the breakdown of our morals.

What has happened in the last 50 years? We took prayer out of school...........We've tried to remove the Ten Commandments from courthouses. Have you read them lately? Even if you're not religious they are good reminders of how to live a good moral life!! Why do they have to be removed if every life can be bettered by living by them?.............We have court orders to remove all nativity scenes from public view!..........It's like we have a band wagon rolling to remove all Christian influences from the USA........Does this affect our morals? You better believe it!

Diana.. Great post! You hit it right on the nose... The morals of this country has gone down as far as I am concerned. Starting with removal of prayer from our schools, in which religion began with our fore fathers when the Declaration of Independence was written. Christianity is a part of this country and athiests and others just want to abolish it. It makes me sooooooo mad when Christmas comes and all advertisements on t.v. and salespeople want to wish you a Happy Holiday, instead of wishing you a Merry Christmas.
Some towns do not want any Christmas Trees or Nativity Scenes in their town center. I say Freak the policitians get rid of the crooks in senate. They must do a full clean up , for there is so much corruption its beyond being funny. But don't get me started ....lol thats another topic...

Back to morals, how can our children have morals when most of the time its not taught at home. I feel for the future generation for there will be none....

oops did I post this on the wrong poll...lol

The morals are declining and not at a slow rate either. There are not severe enough consequences anymore. So many kids are left on their own, doing what they want and the parents have no idea.

Politics...same way...no one to answer to until the next election....by then it's forgotten or nearly forgotten.

It makes me sad how cruel people are to each other. There are no boundaries anymore. People will cross whatever lines...and most of the time...just to see if they can.

I would like things to change, but until everyone steps up and demands more of themselves and those around them....it will decline until it hits bottom and I sure hope I'm not alive to see that awful mess.

You're right, Gina. Teaching morals does begin at home. As parents we have the right to exercise a little thing called "censorship". After all, we are the parents!! We SHOULD have limit ratings set on our TVs and be aware of what our kids are watching. I think that TVs and computers should be in an area where the parents can see what's being watched.

My daughter really doesn't have a problem with wearing clothes that I don't like(such as too revealing), but she does know that at any time Mom has the right to have her change into something more appropriate (My problem is that she ALWAYS wants to wear jeans and t-shirts!). Just because something is in style doesn't mean that it's appropriate to wear!

I invite her to have her friends over to our house so that I can know her friends. Friends' morals can rub off on our own children.

You will reap what you sow with your children. The time and energy that you put into raising your children to be good moral and godly people will pay off big time in the years to come.

Sorry, but I have such wonderful kids (not that we haven't had a few problems) that I could always go on and on. I feel that my husband and I have done a wonderful job in raising our family.

The morals of this country are horrible!!!!!! Just look at the TV for five minutes. There is too much sex without marriage. If you used our television programs to determine what is acceptable behavior in our country, you would think that part of a first date is spending the night together. My goodness, it's no wonder the pregnancy rate among young teens is on the rise.

And all the controversy over homosexuality. People, people, what are we doing??? Sodom and Gammorah were doing what is being done in America today, and just look what God did to them.

We need to wake up and look at what is happening and make a move for a change. We the people can make a change.

(And no, I'm not a right wing Republican, because I'm sick of big business running our country. I was with Bush until he invaded Iraq. That's when he lost me. I thought we were chasing terrorists who had hurt us. What was "Operation Iraqi Freedom" all about? I thought we were doing an "Operation Wipe out those Terrorists". Where are the WMD's? Now you really think I'm nuts, right??? No, just using reason, to make my decisions, not following some party line.)

I worked in a courthouse for many years and that was an enlightening experience as to what is going on nowadays. A majority of the people coming into the office for whatever reason were rude, couldn't speak decent English, half dressed, had no idea of what planet they were on and could care less that they were facing any type of punishment. There was absolutely no respect for anything or anyone including the judges. It was just unbelieveable.

It's very scary....the world today and the world my grandchildren are growing up in. We have to stick together and keep the religion in our children's lives and teach them good morals and value to live by. If that is instilled in our kids at a young age it will usually be there when they're older. It's the parents that do not teach their children that are ruining it for those of us that do.

I think the lack of respect comes from parents who no longer demand respect from their children. They are more like their child's "buddy" and "friend" than their "parent." Heck, if my mother was young enough to be my sister, I probably wouldn't respect her much, either. There's too many children having children in this country. My husband delivered a baby a month or so ago and the mother was 16 and she was having her 3rd child!!!!!!! How disturbing is that?!
