If I won the lottery, I would pay off all me and my hubby's education, buy a house, and buy new cars for hubby and me. THEN, I would give my parents and my hubby's parents a whole bunch, and I mean a WHOLE bunch of money for taking care of us through all these years. If it weren't for them, Will and I would not be where we are today. I would also pay for my sisters' educations and my hubby's sister's education. Then I would hire a housekeeper and a chef. Then I would invest the rest, if I had any leftover!

I would pay off my student loans, give some to my brother (he's a huge saver, so I know he'd invest it), go on a small shopping spree, and invest the rest. You've got to have some fun with some of it!
![]() OH! And I'd get my little guy (Ferdinand) another yorkie to play with.

You two are much more generous than I am. Not that I don't want to be, but I would want to make sure me, hubby (?) and son's future is secure first. Then I would "think" about helping my other family and friends. After seeing how one day they "had it" and practically the next day it was gone...I just don't wouldn't want that to happen. I am tired of struggling all the time.

I've struggled much of my life financially. We've had some really crappy luck with medical problems, our house burning, hubby getting hurt at work and being off for 5 months one time, 3 months 2 other times. Our income dropped by 60% overnight when I found out about my heart problems. It's not that we haven't tried, but we have definitely struggled. NOW we're both finally making good income and life is on the upswing. We will never be rich, but at least we can afford to live modestly without the usual struggle. So I know how it is and would never want to go back.
Because of my own experiences, I would definitely give as much as I felt I could afford to several friends, and family members who have also struggled. I wouldn't be happy with a million $ in the bank with those I love still struggling, so it wouldn't even be a question for me. I'd definitely pay off our own bills and buy a few luxories, but I'd also make sure I shared the wealth.

The only reason I would give away a lot of my money to my parents, in-laws, sisters, and sister-in-law is because they have helped hubby and me during this financially difficult time in our lives. My hubby is almost done with medical school and I am about to start law school. With both of us in school, we have ZERO money! We have so many loans to pay back. Our families have helped support our educations and they have done everything possible to help hubby and me get to where we are today and I would want to repay them somehow. However, I would NOT ever give anyone any money that has not done so for me or that I think would not help me if I needed it.

So glad you posted that...I was beginning to feel like a real selfish tighta$$!! My Mom never encouraged me to go on to school, we never had the money I guess, I don't know, but in the 32 years that I've been married, other than Thanksgiving and Christmas, she has never invited us to her house for a meal or taken us out. She use to come here every Monday, before I finally put a stop to it because she was coming out just for the free food. We have taken her out many, many times. She has plenty of money, her own place in Florida and goes on cruises every year...so no I wouldn't give her any money. I would give some to my brothers, just because they are my brothers and I love them, but I wouldn't want either of their wives to benefit from it. Horrible aren't I? My best friend...well I would give her the world. What ever it would take to make her healthy again. Other than my immediate family, my best friend would never want for anything either.

Janet, you are NOT selfish. I would not give ANY of my friends any bc I don't think they would give me any if I really needed it and they had money to give. I would only help those who have gone out of their way to help me or those who I know I can count on to help me if I truly needed it. I really hate moochers. I hate it when people are only friends with people who have something to offer them. I steer very clear of people like that. It is quality, not quantity that matters to me. I have very few friends (I could probably count my friends on one hand), but the friends I have, I would give my life for.
