No he will be 6 weeks. I am on a yorkietalk-type message board for labrador owners/lovers and they said 6 weeks is a little early...8 weeks is ideal...but I guess getting a 6 week old lab would be like getting an 8 week old yorkie...it's not ideal but definately not bad. And I was going to ask the breeder to keep him for a week or two longer but she is letting his whole litter go at 6 weeks so there would really be no point to me leaving him since if he stayed, he would need to be with his litter, you know?

Until we got our Yorkies, all our other dogs we've ever had, labs, golden retriever, were 6-8 weeks old when we brought them home. They all did great! Back then, I didn't know there was a perfect age to bring them, home...so for being a dummy at the time....they were good and healthy dogs.

My little Zoe (yorkie) was 7 weeks when we brought her home. Didn't know any better and our breeder who is a wonderful lady had two litters she was caring for and knew Zoe was going to a good home. She did find, and she is a tiny girl, so your lab will probably do just fine. I just thought 5 weeks was stretching it, but 6 is better.

Your breeder let you bring Zoe home at 7 weeks!!!? Since she is 3 lbs now she must have been VERY tiny when you brought her home! Reuger is almost 6 lbs and I didn't bring him home until he was 12 weeks. I'm sure glad that you didn't have any problems because on YT I've read of so many who had big problems bringing them home that early and that small.

We had a lab and we brought her home at 7 weeks old. My husband had a training book and that was the age that was recommended.

My girl was a LOT smaller then her litter mates, she did not grow like they did. The breeder did not want to send her home with us until he was sure she had a clean bill of health with no underlaying issues. Until then, we had to wait for her. In this pic she is 12 weeks, and you can see how small she was, incase anyone would like to see.

Wow! She is absolutely STUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a gorgeous girl you have there! And oh my goodness! What a teeny tiny lab puppy she was!!!!!! Just beautiful

Zoe was checked out by two vets, one the day before we picked her up, and another the day after. Both said that she was extremely healthy. Our vet is really surprised that she is so healthy being so tiny. Most of his tiny yorkie patients have some type of health issue. Our breeder does not live too far from us also, and we stayed in contact for a while and she is still or groomer and is always there when we have a question.

Mandy, your lab is beautiful!!! If we ever move to the country, we may consider a lab although, I want to travel via RV when we retire, so the yorkies are probably more practical. People tease us that we already have the little dogs all we need is an RV.

No, we're getting him on Sunday.

And we brought Hootie, one of our yorkies, home at 7.5 weeks. She never had a problem either.

Oops, sorry, I saw Friday on your "Hootie & Hobbs are getting a brother" post. You did say Sunday in another thread, maybe this one. It's tough getting old!!
