designer clothing - are they worth it?

$250 for a pair of Diesel jeans. $1000 for a leather Juicy Couture jacket. $100 for a pair of Valentino bras. These prices are INSANE! but are they worth it? what do you think??

No, I don't think that they're worth it. Even if I made a lot of money I would have trouble spending it on over-priced clothing. I would much rather have nice furniture, a nice home, or a nice car. I don't see a problem spending a little more to get better quality, but I'm not into expensive name brands.

I agree. I would rather have the nice home and car.

I'm with y'all. Spending a little more for quality is often a smart thing, but the prices you are suggesting are over the top. You would be buying the item for the name not the function.

Not worth it, coz its in & out of fashion too fast to spend thousands on, but i have to admit, i have no problem spending extra on a good pair of jeans, to me they are worth it, because of the comfort they provide.

I have never bought name brand clothing unless you count the Croc shoes I just bought...LOL My mother-in-law and I use to have this discussion. Even though she couldn't afford it, she was always telling me they last much longer and are of better quality. I pulled clothes out of my closet and showed her items I've had for years. I tried to explain to her that if you wash them correctly and take care of them, that Wal Mart and Target..etc items last just as long. She must have remembered our conversations, because I now have all her clothes.

Even IF I was able to afford it, I would much rather spend money on my home.

I think it depends. If it's the trendy name brand clothes, then no; but certain brands are know for great quality or fit. I love my lucky jeans because they fit so well. And I love my Ann taylor dresses. I'm an odd shape so from time to time I have to spend a bit of extra money to get something that tailored to fit well.

you know its really funny how when things come up at home, it ineviably comes up on 4WT. Hubby & I just had a conversation about me only bargain shopping for anything for me. I am short & have ALOT of trouble finding clothes (esp Jeans or pants) to fit me. It was no where near the designer prices you were speaking of but I refused to pay $35 for a pair of Mudd jeans I loved but would have had to bring home, cut off & hem. For one I will not pay that much for something for me esp. since I don't work so I just sit at home most of the time. Second I do not see paying for something I have to bring home & alter. It usually takes away from the fit of the jeans anyway. He just doesn't get that. Although he did come from a family who was pretty well off & we always had to struggle. I think that may be a big part of why we see things differently. I would not pay the prices for the desinger clothes even if money wasn't an issue. I agree with the other ladies. Too many things the kids need & want, things I want for my house & I would rather put the money aside to save for our own house someday.

I fully agree with the rest of you.
I'm not opposed to dressing nice, but you shouldn't have to spend insane amounts of money to accomplish that. Anything I've got for work would be less than $80 per outfit. I've never been told by an employer that I need to upgrade my wardrobe, so It must be ok! If I spend $30 on a piece you know I really like it and will get a lot of use out of it.

My comfy run-around or everyday clothes often come from yard sales, Salvation Army, Savers, etc.

I don't think I've ever spent over $60.00 for a pair of jeans in my life.

Now, If i was a billionaire would I pay such high prices for all those name brands? Possibly. I can't say for sure because I've never been a billionaire. LOL I atleast wish I had the ability to find out though.

I look in these fashion magazines and totally fall in love with some of the purses I see. Then I notice the price and my mouth drops. Moreso w/ a lot of the dresses worn by many models. So dainty, feminine, and beautiful. Only to find they want $2000.00 for such a dress.

I do believe one can find really nice classy outfits w/out having to spend tons of money.

I pay a lot for my jeans but thats because I ALWAYS wear jeans so I get a lot of use out of them and its hard for me to find a good pair, so when I do I need to snatch them up. As far as shoes and tops I wouldnt spend high prices on them, I dont think its worth it.

One of my girlfriends swears by Seven jeans. She says you have to own a pair to understand just how awesome they are.

Now usually I'd never spend that much on a pair of jeans.....but she's got me curious!
