Anyone want to walk with me?????
Okay, I've done it again, I've purchased a pedometer and have started walking.
A couple of years ago I did this for about 6 months and it really worked well. I just set goals for myself (no. of steps/day, week, and month) and this got me moving. I'm starting with a goal of 20,000 steps/day Monday I clocked 17112 Tuesday, 18231 Today....well, gotta head out and walk the dogs soon, I'm only up to 15331 so far It's been one of the computer-addict afternoons, lol Anyway... If anyone's interested I thought we could post our goals and our progress here...keep each other motivated. What do ya' think???? (Last time my goal was 10,000/day and I raised it over the 6 mos. Then winter hit ) |

I have one of those pedometer's too, but have never used it. I love walking, but don't walk much out here in the country. To many people let their dogs run the countryside and it scares me. I have a treadmill, but haven't used it for some time...maybe when it gets a little cooler.

I don't have a pedometer, but I do spin classes several times a week. I did 6.7 miles today in 40 minutes. Does that count?

Spin is indoor cycling. It's not just sitting on a bike though and peddling. The wheel on front is weighted, and there is a hand crank to increase and decrease resistance. An instructor leads a classroom of people on bikes in a 45 minute routine accompanied by some exhillerating music. You simulate climbing hills by increasing resistance. You run races cranking resistance on and off, alternating standing in the peddles and seated. You do jumps where you are seated for a certain number of spins, then standing for the same number of spins (usually 1, 2 or 4), and alternating several times. It's a pretty rigorous workout. The classes I attend usually include 40 to 45 minutes of spin, then we do floor exercises with weights, a big ball and such to work the abs, and strengthen the upper body. It's a great workout. Great cardio and burns lots of calories. It's easier on your knees than running. In fact, if you are doing it correctly, it doesn't stress any of your joints.

Wow Marilyn. That sounds great. They offer spin classes at my college's gym, but I never knew what that meant until now. Since you've described it, I think I've seen them doing those classes. Maybe I'll have to look into that...

Thanks for the information, Marilyn. I've never heard of it before. It does sound like a good workout.
