Stupid pot holes!!!!!!!!
So this afternoon I was in a great mood. I was dropping off my brother at the lounge where he left his car last night, and then picking up Kyle to do some grocery shopping and hanging out. As I was driving to Kyle's house I was honestly thinking to myself "I'm so lucky I've never had a problem with this car and don't constantly spend money fixing it like Kyle has to with his!" Anyway, it's been melting like crazy here, and I was following an SUV down the road and at the last minute saw a huge splash ahead of me. There was a big puddle stretching all the way across the road. I hit the brakes to slow down, and just made sure no people were walking by that would get splashed. I was halfway through the puddle when I there was a huge BOOM BOOM and I really really thought I did something to my bumper. I even looked out my back window to make sure nothing fell off my car!
I just drove the rest of the way to Kyle's house and got out of my car and went straight to the front to make sure the bumper was still intact. There were no cracks or anything so I was relieved and started walking towards his front door when I heard a SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS sound right behind me. I walked back to the car and noticed my front passenger tire losing air. Then I noticed my bent rim. I went to his door and rang the doorbell, and waited, and waited, and waited, and I got so frustrated that he was taking so long to answer the door, and so mad that my tire was flat, and so worried about when and how I can get it fixed... I just started crying. He answered the door and made me feel better and called a bunch of places for me but nothing was open today It was just a terrible day for me and I needed to vent about it. My roommate said she drove by that area later and it had all been blocked off. I wonder if I'd be able to get some money out of the city for it, or if it would even be worth it to try.

aw, I feel your pain! It can't hurt to ask the city. Since we all have to pay taxes to mantain the roads, I think they should have to keep them up.........or pay us back!

Sorry you had problems Lindsey. Don't let it get you down though. Good lesson learned is stay far enough behind the car ahead of you so you can see those darn potholes.
They are horrible around here too. Driving the bus down gravel roads..(can't believe it's the 21st century and we still have gravel roads), but they are an absolute mess. Can hardly get down them they have so many holes and are softening up since it's thawing. Buses can get stuck just driving down the middle of the road. Hope you're feeling better about the whole thing...(hole thing...lol)

Spring is an awful time for roads. If they're going to form holes this is the time for it.
I'm glad it wasn't any worse!

PA is notorious for potholes, and it gets worse on the highways. Sorry for your car problems.

Things are looking up today. I might be able to get money out of the city, because a friend of mine did a few years ago, but I don't think it's even worth it. My dad found a used rim at an auto wrecking place, and bought it for $75... best part is it came with a good tire already on it at no extra cost, and my dad's friend is coming to the city on Wednesday So I can just get my brother or Kyle to put the new tire on for me and I'm good to go! I'm going to be home in 2 weeks anyway and I'm getting my winter tires taken off, so it would be a pain to have to go in to get my tire put on an empty rim when I'd only be using it for another 2 weeks anyway!

So glad it's working our for you so economically!!! One of our daughers hit a curb and bent two rims. There were no used ones available to fit her vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so we had to buy new. New Jeep rims were $400 each and would be a few days delivery. She needed to be back up and running so we bought her 4 new aftermarket rims that matched for about the same amount as the 2 Jeep rims. Had to buy two new tires on top of that.
You got off really, really cheap!!!! Way to go!!!

So sorry, Lindsey. Our roads are in really bad shape. Probably the worst that I've seen them in. We don't have road crews that know what they're doing to keep a gravel road in shape and the roads have never gotten back in descent shape since the flood. So many of the roads we use were in the flood waters and the county has run out of money to repair them so they're just dumping gravel in spots to get by. Fema has been a big joke and nobody's happy with them!!!

I was afraid I'd sound like I was exaggerating, but I think ours are the worst I've ever seem them too. I've driven the bus now for 6 years and the gravel roads are so bad.
Right now the temps are going up and they are so soft, but the potholes still shake the heck out of the bus. If it stays warm enough and no rain or snow, maybe they'll be able to get out and grate them some. They sure need it...BAD!!

The Department of Transportation needs to quit spending money studying crazy projects like the TransTexas Corridor and I-69 and put the money to work repairing all our roads!!!

Wow Lindsey, that was some pothole! I'm sorry that happened to you, but you are lucky you didn't get hurt.
I had to buy 2 new tires 2 weeks ago. I had one flat and another tire was pretty bad. Not too bad - $100 each and now I have new tires. I'm glad you got such a bargain!

Well my dad called me last night and said the tire on the rim had a nail hole in it, so he got it taken off and got one of my other tires put on (which I'm getting put on next weekend anyway!) and he found out yesterday he had to come here today for a course for work so he's bringing the tire himself and he's putting it on today or tomorrow, depending on when he gets time Thank goodness for dads!
