A number of yorkie-poodle mixes come to the kennel where I work. They all have the coloring of the yorkie, but the black stays black--doesn't fade to blue, and their coats are somewhere between a yorkie coat and a poodle coat. Their coats are long and wavy, and the texture is sort of cotton-y and tends to mat up easily. One way easy way to deal with the coat is to keep the dogs shaved in a 7-kennel, but doing so isn't necessary. The trick is to get a greyhound comb in addition to a brush and to use the comb after brushing. The comb will find trouble spots that a brush will go right over. As long as the puppy owners make sure they get all the way to the skin with the comb, they'll be able to keep the coat at any length they want.
Given that the father isn't your dog and has a history of escaping, you might want to consider testing the mother, and if possible the father, for brucellosis--an STD that dogs get and the mother can pass onto the puppies. I don't think the test is particularly expensive. The disease isn't rampant or anything, so you're probably in the clear, but since you don't know what other women the father has been hanging with, you might want to think about doing the testing. Best of luck with the puppies. I sure hope you'll post pics when they arrive. The yorkie-poodle crosses I've met have all been very cute dogs. |

Not sure why you think this is outlandish. If you don't agree with the OP or even the whole thread in its entirety then why even reply to it all. I simply avoid threads that I don't agree with. Just seems like a waste of time worrying over it. If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all. I really try to stick to this myself at times. I am not perfect and my true feelings slip out. Hey we aren't all perfect.

I think some people on here are just trying to educate others who obviously aren’t very educated on the matter, and the educators are being ridiculed for it. From what I can see, they are doing it in a respectful manner. Is there something wrong with disagreement on this board? Are people only allowed to post on this forum if they agree with senior members? Are opinions and concerns not allowed? It seems okay to talk about one’s dog, as long as no one brings up concerns or questions. I’m sorry buy that is a double standard and does not make sense. This seems like a nice forum…unless you dare to disagree with others.

It's not a matter of being educated. It is a matter of being respectful. I don't know that the OP really asked to be educated. She was vey happy about having new puppies and was just spreading the good word.
I think if you want to educate us about shelters and so on why not start a new thread in the Off Topic section on just that subject. I am sure it would get a ton of views. I just think there is a time and place for everything. I see you are a newbie! Welcome!

Well Mac'sMom,
Welcome to 4WT I have no idea what you're talking about, though I do find this an odd post for someone that doesn't know us all yet. By the way, I'm Kat and I'm the OP of this thread, nice to meet you

Thank you for the welcome.
I would take you up on the offer to post a thread about shelters, but as it has been stated by other members here, this is not a dog forum, so I doubt my effort would be welcomed or appreciated. |

I don't believe that I claimed to be perfect anywhere in my reply - I know I am far from it.
I have found that ignoring issues just allows problems to fester - I was just saying that if people have issues with each other, they should approach them directly instead of beating around the push or taunting. It wasn't meant to offend anyone. |
