Well, my husband accidently let my female
guinea out yesterday. I've been keepg them locked up in hopes of getting some guinea eggs to hatch. Later on that afternoon her male buddy got out too. I had told Bob that the door didn't shut right but he forgot. So anyway they are still alive this morning. They use to fly in to the coop at night and probably will again after the mating season is over. Anyway, later on yesterday I went in to the coop to check on the chickens and there was a 6 ft. long snake eating one of the eggs! Boy, I turned around and hauled *** down to Bob's shop. To make a long story short, the snake has gone to heaven.
I do have pics of the Catfish festival but haven't put them in the computer yet. The next few days will be busy but maybe towards the end of the week I'll get to it. Hope you all are doing well and having fun! |

I had no idea a guinea was a bird until I read farther along in your post - at first I was thinking "Do Guinea pigs lay eggs?"

It's a good thing that you got rid of the snake. They'll clean out most of the eggs. Hope that your guineas make it back in the cage soon. Something could get them too. Oh, the joys of country living!!!!!
We had 3 of the cutest little kittens that didn't even have their eyes open yet and a tom cat got into the garage and killed all of them. I was so disappointed.

Oh how sad Diana. I didn't know tom cats would do that.

I think guineas are such cool birds. Most of my expended family on my father's side raised them and I so enjoyed the sound of them when we would go and visit. There was usually a herd of them near the mailbox when we turned into their place and they'd go scooting, making their cute sounds.
Someday, I'd like to have guineas. Thought we would be living where we could have some chickens and such when we retire, but now hubby says he likes the idea of living in a suburb of a large city where there are lots of cool golf courses. Guess I'll spend retirement in a golf cart with him rather than making soap and raising guineas. Perhaps he'll change his mind. He's good at planning something and then changing courses and going in an entirely different direction. (He's talked about chickens and maybe a couple of cows recently. This is what I mean.) I just hang on for the ride.

I've never even heard of a Guinea bird. I'll have to do some research now in case it comes up in one of my Trivial Pursuit games.

But they're cute as Keets (baby guineas). My neighbor has borrowed my incubator and is incubating guinea eggs for me just in case mine doesn't have any this year. Both guines are back in the hen house and I didn't put the netting back up and they aren't flying out. Maybe they'll use the kennel I put in there the other day. My baby Americuna chicks are in they're new hen house outside. The smell was not so good the last 2 days so got some straw and out they went. We were suppose to have 6 hens but there are 3 hens and 3 roosters. One of the roosters is quite aggressive. I only plan to keep one and he is not the one I'm keeping!! He will be supper in a few months.

Being so afraid of birds, it just gives me the willies reading about some of you wanting them and liking them...LOL. I do have Hummingbird and Finch feeders up, so I'm doing better. I just don't want any of them near me.
