EEKKK! We shared a scary experience, i'm not sure if that is there name, they have two yellow marks on both sides of there bodies, that look like banana's that's why we called them that, i still remember that day, my brother was tormenting me like he always did chasing me, and i ran right into it. and you are also right they sit right in the middle of there web, and he smacked right in the middle of my face.. YUk...... scared the crap out of me.. just to feel that web on my face and the spider on my nose.... YUK.....

They will get your attention. In my case, it wasn't exactly on my nose. I was freaking out trying to find it with their strong sticky web everywhere. Finally flung it on the ground. Maybe that is why I'm not scared of spiders, but do freak out when one gets on me. The thought of them crawling on me is just totally creeps me out!!!! I get the heeby jeebies just thinking about it.

We call them Garden spiders. Here's a picture of one with the zigzag pattern on it's web. They're pretty harmless and do a great job of eating bugs.

Shada, I've heard of putting hedge apples around to keep out spiders. We've got plenty of them around so I should put some in the basement. Thanks for the reminder!

We put up a few bat houses in our back yard, hoping that takes care of any spiders back there.

I don't know about spiders but bats will take care of mosquitos and flying insects.

Okay, I just have to add to this thread. I am in complete agreement with all of you other spider haters! I am a member of a photo forum and today I opened a thread and it was photos of a spider killing and eating a bee! It was hairy and gross and ALBINO! It was awful. I had to close the thread quickly...I might have nightmares now! YUCK!

Like Diana and marilyn, spiders don't bother me unless they're crawling ON me. Now bat... are a whole different matter. If see a bat swoop by I run and scream like a little kid.

My hubby is terrified of snakes. Doesn't matter if they're 4" long, he kills them on sight. I haven't told him yet that our nasty neighbors have a 12' boa in their house. He'd move!
This is the snake the neighbors have... photo taken a couple years ago so he's grown since.

patssnake.jpg If tht thing ever gets out my poor hubby will end up dead from a heart attack or in jail for having shot it.
