Diana, I was a medicare claims processor. I worked on claims that were submitted with problems. The quota given on Friday was to correct 50 or more claims per hour, which means you get about one minute to bring up the claim, find the problem, correct it and reenter the claim so it can be paid. Yes, time is of the essense when paying these claims, but the computers, several different programs and the processors all have to be at peak performance in order to accomplish this, and unfortunately, if any one aspect is a bit off, it all falls behind.

The work is done in cubicles, so you're isolated all day. They have so much work to accomplish that they've made 8 hours overtime per week mandatory so people are tired and burning out. It's just a tough job with a lot of challenges and intense demands.
