Let's keep in mind that McCain is 72 years old. This lady even as nice as she is has been govenor of a state with a population of 670,053 for one month longer than Obama has been running for President. Prior to that, she was the part time mayor of a small town of 6,700 people, and prior to that a city counsel member for that small town.

For comparison, the population of Memphis, Tennessee is 674,028.

Again, she may be a wonderful person, but there are a lot of wonderful people in the Republican party who are pro-life who have much more experience than this fine lady.

Who do you want to answer the phone at 3 a.m.? Sarah Palin, hockey mom and small town mayor/small state govenor, or someone with some years of experience with international relations.

Kay Bailey Hutchison or Condoleza Rice are fine Republican women with the right kind of experience. If we are looking at credentials and not just gender, there are lots of very qualified Republicans who I would much rather have answer that phone at 3 a.m.

She, again, may have a heart of gold, but is she ready to hold the most important elected position in the country, maybe in the world?

It really makes you wonder why her, why now? I'm all for women in high level positions in our government. I believe they bring wonderful qualities to the job, but when a woman is put in that position, it needs to be one who is extremely qualified and ready to perform the functions required of her, whatever they may be.

That's all fine and dandy but I wasn't asking what anyone thought of her as a Republican.. I was wondering what everyone thinks of women in general holding high positions such as this.

I seriously didn't think it would happen, but McCain has picked a running mate that I feel good about and feel balances him out well. In my opinion the best presidents aren't necessarily the ones who know it all or have experienced it all, but who surround themselves by people who do. What's important to me is that they be of good judgment, strong ethics, have a sense of calm in a crisis, are capable of standing firm in spite of controversy, and share morals and ideals similar to mine. I feel this pair does.

I'm sure her gender had a lot to do with her being chosen... as people this time around finally seem ready to have a black or a woman on the ticket. I have to agree with Marilyn that Condi Rice seemed an obvious choice, but I've heard she didn't want it. I would have loved to see Collin Powell on the ballot, but he too decllined saying he didn't want to put himself or his family through it.

I'm glad we're finally seeing a bit more diversity being offered however it ends.

I think that Hillary, Condy, and MANY others have paved a way for women to take on important roles such as this. Who knows we might have a woman as the President one day. Imagine calling your hubby the First Man or First Husband. LOL

I believe that most women can multi task better than men. I also believe that its time for a women to be in charge. A lot of corporations have a women at the helm. From what I have seen from Sarah Palin. I think that Kay Bailey Hutchison or Condoleza Rice are good women and are great leaders. I also think Christine Whitman from NJ is good as well. Its time ladies for a women to straighten things out.

I really like that Palin has said no to big money and is not afraid to shake things up.

I do not like either of the candidates for president. I think that no matter which one gets in office, they will not be there for long. I am voting based on the vice president.

I couldn't agree more! LOL I have often heard (and sadly from my hubby at times too) that we get too emotional when that time of the month comes. I also told him that maybe that is what we need. I expect sometime in the future we will find out. Like Tink said, more diversity is being offered now on BOTH sides. So I am sure it is just a matter of time.
