I would imagine that the bike was probably what they were after but you probably need to get a chain and lock for the other items on your deck. It does sound like Layla was a pretty good watch dog!!! You should make sure that she gets some extra loving and treats today!!!!

As far as locking your sliding glass door all you need is a dowl rod or a piece of wood cut to fit in the track of the door when it's closed. It's very easy to lock and unlock too.

Thank goodness that you're alright and that he decided not to come on into the house. I'm sure that it was very scary when you found out.

My dogs are barkers for sure and I do complain about it. But they are also my watchdogs when the guys are gone camping with Scouts. It's probably a good thing too that you did ignore her...hard telling what could have happened if they new a pretty young lady was in the house alone.

Luckily I wasn't here alone last night, and now I'm scared of being here alone! We have all really been paranoid today. We have had the door locked at all times. Unlock the door to get in, and then lock it again. My roommate was out and my brother was out when I left for my class tonight, so I left a couple of lights on inside so it wouldn't look like the house was empty. I think we're going to start leaving our porch light on overnight too. Ugh tonight after class I was standing around talking with my friends, and I realized I felt safer on a sidewalk downtown right outside a parking garage, than I do in my own house right now.

Lindsey, so sorry that this had to happen to you. We've had several things stolen from us over the years. The worst part is the feeling that you have been invaded. Sounds like you have a really good watchdog there!!! She was really working to alert you!! It must be frustrating for our furkids sometimes when they are trying so hard to communicate with us. Give her lots of special attention, she definitely deserves it.

Oh Lindsay, I don't know how I missed this thread!!! I'm so sorry this happened to you. It is such an awful feeling when this happens. A few years ago we came home from a weekend trip, and found our front door kicked in. Funny thing was that we could tell someone had been in the house, but they didn't take anything!!! It felt so weird.

You will get over this bad feeling eventually, but it takes time. I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this.

Gayle, that really is odd that nothing was stolen!! I wonder what they went in for
And Marilyn, I felt so bad after realizing all that Layla was going through to wake me up. Sometimes I wish dogs could just talk. But she definitely got some extra hugs and kisses and treats yesterday!
My grandma has had so much stolen from her house, but she lives in a pretty sketchy neighborhood. She can't put out Christmas decorations anymore because they're always stolen or wrecked. Her shed was broken into and they took her snowblower... IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER! I can't imagine how awful she feels knowing people are in her fenced yard when she's in her house sleeping alone.

We think it was the neighbor boy who had a crush on our daughter at the time - still, it was creepy!

You know the lesson is, the next time Layla tries to tell you something, you will likely listen!!! The other day, my hubby had his headphones on listening to music and I had set the kitchen timer and then went outside and I didn't hear it when it went off. Of course Rowdy heard it and he ran to my husband who was sitting in his lazy boy chair, jumped up on this chest, did a little dance, and licked my hubby UP THE NOSE! If you dont' think that didn't get his attention Hubby ripped off the headphones to get on to Rowdy and when he did, he heard the timer buzzing and knew Rowdy was only trying to tell him something. Then he had to apologize and get up and get him a treat! They are Soooooo smart!
