Pretty Much Exhausted!!

I didn't sleep well last night...partly because I was just in a bad mood, partly because of Rick's darn snoring, and I put Joey in his crate because he kept jumping off the bed barking. So I felt guilty.

I started in the kitchen about 7:30 this morning. I wasn't planning to, but Ricky got up early to go hunting and Rick had to go finish fixing something at the rental house.

I have everything cut up that needs cut up and put in baggies with labels on them. That way tomorrow, all I have to do is dump whatever bag goes with each dish. I made 3 pies, over 2 dozen deviled eggs and a 7-layer salad. I washed up the roaster and now everything is set to go for tomorrow.

Now I just wonder if anyone is going to show up.....haven't heard from a soul, so it may just be the 3 of us.

Janet, I'm with you on being exhausted. I slept okay last night, but I was up early too. I got my stuffing made up and ready to pop in the oven, eggs are deviled, pies are made and everything that can be done is done. Have to put the turkey in tomorrow morning, pop the stuffing in, along with sweet potatoes. My daughter is bringing green bean casserole and broccoli and cheese. I'll make the mashed potatoes last. I'm going to bed early!!

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow!

Janet.. I must say one thing that is rude of your family not to let you know if they are coming for dinner or not. Your working hard and for what.. Why don't you give them a call tonight and ask. That is not nice at all I am sorry.

Try to relax a little, you did a lot for one day. I am helping my SIL cook making the turkey and some veggies. But that will be done in the morning so I am not stressed out at all. If I was having it I be a lunatic....lol I get to do Christmas....

Go have a nice glass of wine that will relax you.. Happy Thanksgiving I am sure your meal will be wonderful.

Thank you Gayle. Rick did finally call his step-sister last night and she was at the Moose (it's a lodge). Said she had to go into work (3rd shift) so she would probably be sleeping. She did the same last year, but she came. Her kids made other plans too.

So...after all the hard work....it's just us three. I was trying to think of someone we could invite, but everyone we know has plans.

I just knew once Rick's Dad and step-Mom passed that the family would no longer get together. Most people would think that is a dream when it comes to the in-laws, but there were only a couple that I didn't really care for.

I'm just disappointed, I wanted a bigger celebration. Next year....we can just go out.

I'm exhausted too. I got most of the house in order yesterday, baked two pumpkin pies, baked crescent rolls, made stuffing, and have my cranberries ground to make into a salad. I was so tired last night but was determined to get things done but with Glen sitting in his recliner SNORING it didn't help with my mood either!!! This morning I just had a few things to do and most of them are done so I'm about ready for company.

I hope that your day gets better, Janet, even if it's just the three of you you can count your blessings!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Janet, I think next year you three should go out to a fancy restaurant. Treat yourselves really well. If dh won't pay for it, maybe you can put a couple of dollars away each week until then.

Your in-laws sound a bit strange. Why wouldn't they want to come to a Thanksgiving at your house? They must be turkey buzzards! (taken from Diana).

Enjoy your day with the boys and the dogs, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Next year we will either go out and if I have to pay...Rick can stay home, or go to my mother's house. I wish I'd know they were not coming at all and I would have planned to go there in the first place. Who knows how many more Thanksgivings I will have with her. I'll probably go in there for a while this evening.

I chose to do NOTHING this year. Many years I had to do it all. The DH does nothing, he is always working, comes in to eat and leaves. Then for 3 days he pigs out on all of the left overs and here I have to clean again.
I feel a bit guilty, think I am getting selfish???????

Janet, I'm sorry that no one else came. I hope you enjoyed a quiet dinner with the three of you.

Going out is a nice idea. We did that a couple times at Easter....we took the kids/grandkids out to dinner. It really was nice not to have to cook and clean up. And, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all!

I don't think it's selfish Donna! I get tired of doing all the crap work all the time.

I don't think that you're selfish either. If there were only my husband and I, I certainly wouldn't do the whole big meal!!! I'd probably just bake a chicken and do a couple of other smaller dishes.
