At Dawn

I have a friend/family member that has written a couple of books. Both of them pertain to people that live/lived in my area. This book, At Dawn, is about a man who is a good friend of ours, Alfred Beard, and his experiences in WW2 and Normandy Beach. There's also pictures of Alfred in his uniform (which still fits, I might add) and some war pictures. There's also some of his recollections of the olden days. In chapter 11 he talks about my father-in-law.

We've sat with Alfred over a dinner table and heard some of his many stories and he is a very interesting man to visit with. This book would be good for Father's Day or a birthday. The book isn't a very big book so it wouldn't be very hard to read.

I bet Glenn is thrilled to know his own father is mentioned in the book. That's wonderful Diana. I think it's cool that you have an author in your area that writes about it's people. That is the kind of book that is handed down through the generations.

That's so interesting. Is it on Amazon?

My Dad wrote short stories about his experiences in WWII. He had them in the local newspaper in Dade County, and in his infantry newsletter. My stepsister's husband had them all bound in beautiful green leather books, named "From Brooklyn to Berchtesgaden." They were just for us, but they are wonderful.

I posted a link to Amazon for all of you. It's below my first post. Here's another link that tells a little about the book.

http://www.iuniverse.com/Bookstore/B...=SKU-000071368

The woman, Sharon, who wrote it is married to my husband's uncle and Sharon is a first cousin to my grandmother so we're very related to each other!!!! She lives pretty close to us and we see them quite often.

Sharon also wrote a book called "Days that should have been" but I can't find it anywhere. It may not be posted on the internet.

Yes, it is. Alfred is such a special guy. His wife died a year or so ago and he misses her so much. He just cries when he talks about her. She had alzheimers really really bad and he loved her so much that he took care of her all by his self until she died.

Alfred was at our church Valentine's Banquet this year and sat across from us so I took his picture. I thought that you might enjoy seeing who the story is about.
