You can get some of these jars and fill them with a couple of inches of cider vinegar. The flies come up through the hole in the bottom and can't find their way out. I have one of these in my yard and it catches flies and gnats. I sure wish that it would catch mosquitos too. I don't know if it would attract the black flies or not.

I've heard that putting fabric softner sheets in your pockets repels mosquitos. I'm going to have to try this one again and see if it works.

We use citronella candles to keep mosquitoes away. I"m thinking it would work on flies too.

Is this the same thing? It's a little less expensive. Do yoiu use apple cider vinegar?

Yes, that's the same thing only it's a lot smaller. And, yes, I use the apple cider vinegar. My instructions called for putting fruit in it with water and letting it age but it just never worked for me. The vinegar smells like rotting fruit and it draws the flies and gnats just as good. I've used mine for the last several years and it does a pretty fair job. My problem is that I have such a big yard and trees all around.........there's LOTS of bugs!!!!!
