Just Don't Get It!

I hope no one takes offense to this, but I just don't understand the hoopla over Michael Jackson's funeral and why all the TV networks have to cover it. Others have passed this month and they didn't get this coverage....Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden and I think a couple others.

He's getting the same kind of media attention as a President...Princess Diana...etc.

I just don't get it.

I agree. I don't understand it either. As far as the tickets for his memorial they're free but in order to get them your name had to be entered in a drawing and if your name was drawn you got two tickets. I saw on the news where there's tickets on e-bay for $20,000!!!!

I think he was a genius, but I have heard people being interviewed who are so crazy to go to his funeral. I had no idea he was so revered, I have to tell you.
Why in the world would anyone want to go to a funeral?

It's kind of like going to Graceland. In fact, I heard today that "they" are thinking of turning Neverland into another Graceland.

People are absolutely NUTS!!!

Every time they go into the Michael Jackson story, I just wish one f them would just say, "Michael Jackson latest update - he's still dead."

So funny Judy!!!

You're right he was a good entertainer, but so was Lucille Ball, Bob Hope and many many others. I just don't get it.

I think that the memorial service is going to be something to see. I just read where they've taken 11 elephants and some horses from a circus to Staples!! They also have a whole long list of famous people who are going to be there and of several who are going to entertain. They are actually turning his memorial into a "circus" in my opinion!!

My husband just shouted me to come and watch, sorry what a load of rubbish. Thankfully only on one channel here.

I did end up watching the service. I didn't sit right in front of the TV the whole time, but did have it on. The music was awesome of course. My favorite speaker was Brooke Sheilds. She made him seem more human to me than just an entertainer. Also...it was sad to hear his daughter cry.

I agree that the media coverage of this was truly ridiculous. It was like a President died or something. As has been said, he had some good music, but the guy was soooo strange. The world raises people like this to such an in appropriately high level.

My dear friend who passed recently was ordinary by the World's standards, but she was much more deserving of special recognition than Michael Jackson. God will give appropriate rewards in the end, though.

I was wrong about the elephants they were there for another reason. I went back and checked the article and, well, my mistake. Sorry.

It did look like the memorial was done fairly tastefully. I didn't watch it but what I saw looked like a nice tribute. A little over done, but nice.

Diana, the elephants were part of a tradition of Ringling Bros early the morning of his memorial. They march the elephants, zebras and a few other animals down the street when they are in town.

They were going to their temporary housing a parking lot behind Staples center.

It was a beautifully put together memorial.
The media is to blame as usual, digging for dirt. The same people who covered his trials and never made a big deal of never being convicted later, now kissing the families ass. Paris made the one public statement in her 11 years and they can't get enough, sad.

Jackson hid most of the time because the media constantly gouged at him and the way he chose to live his life. So with his come back tour scheduled and rehearsals underway as well as the fact that he was a 50 year old man, the sudden death of such a bright star was very much a shock.
It hurt to realize this really IS it.
It is easy for us to forget in our day to day lives what a HUGE star he was and how many people around the world who's lives he touched. People who cannot even speak English can perform his songs in perfect English.

Janet, remember... as much as one can, we had time to prepare ourselves for Farrah and Eds passings. She was sick for a very long time and he was elderly also ill towards the end.

As Americans and human beings, I think it important with the passing of time, with the new age of technology texting/instant messaging/googling and personal profiling... we remain and teach our children a little more empathy, tolerance, acceptance and patience for our fellow man.

It was on every single major channel! Now, "experts" are discussing who should get his children, and where his money is going. This is not our business, nor is it important for anyone except his family to know. His daughter Paris was so eloquent, and so beautiful! It was also nice to see that his family gathered around him in his death.

He really was a genius, and he broke racial barriers, which were really important. He left behind quite a legacy. On the other hand, he really was very troubled and a sad person. Did he molest those children, or did their parents find a cash cow? If he was a pedophile, why were there children sleeping over there with him? I wouldn't let mine near him if I thought that he was harmful.
I have a lot of trouble trusting people who get paid off like those parents did.
He was never found guilty either. It's like the Kobe Bryant story. I did not believe that young woman was raped at all. She was cashing in.

Did he have too much plastic surgery? Yes he sure did! So what? He was crazy by then. Did he harm anyone but himself by doing that? No! Is it very sad?
I think so.

In the Buddhist religion, it is taught that you keep reincarnating until you get it right. (Right being becoming enlightened, or one with God). It is also thought that an early death is sometimes due to the fact that this particular reincarnation is going badly. I feel that maybe that's what happened to him. So brilliant, so talented, no childhood, no guidance....maybe it needed to end so that his soul could start over, either in another life, or in heaven, whichever you believe in.

So, in the end, Michael Jackson is still dead no matter what the media wants to probe and delve into this and that. I expect Gloria Allred to speak out on behalf of something really soon. Dr. Phil may or may not do a show on some part of it and Nancy Grace is all busy with it.

Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson.

Well said Pope and Judy, i fully agree with what you both said.

The man obviously was a bit disturbed, and i do believe his childhood had all to do with it.
The world was in shock when the news came out, but it was the same when Elvis Presley, and John Lennon passed, not only Michael Jackson.
