Broken thumb!
Abi injured her thumb at the v-ball tourney on Saturday. She continued to play and they got 4th place (out of 16). Her mom decided to take her to the doc today since it was still really swollen and painful - it's broken. Thumbs usually do not break - but what happened was that it got jammed so hard, the sides of the joint (where it attaches to the hand) squirted out both sides - OUCH!
Hard HOT PINK cast for 3 weeks, then a splint for a while longer. Guess she'll be watching v-ball for a while. This is not her first broken bone. She fell off the bed when she was about 18 months old and broke her arm. Then she was doing gymnastics and fell on her elbow and broke the tip end off. Now this. Poor kid - swine flu last week, broken thumb this week. Thankfully, it is on her left hand and she is right handed!

She called me last week when she was home with the flu and asked if she could buy some music off itunes for her ipod (she has my itunes account password and can buy tunes with my permission) and of course, I said yes - and I didn't set a limit as I usually do because I felt sorry for her. Well, $26 later...... LOL! It's OK, I don't mind, but I usually set a $10 limit. I gave her her birthday present today and she really liked it - so I guess I"m good for a while!

Poor baby, sounds like she keeps y'all hopping. Lucky on being the left hand.
My son broke his right-handed right hand/thumb at that joint and it took forever to heal, something about the blood flow there. He was a junior in high school, playing football. Every Saturday morning for seems like 5 months, we had a standing appointment with the doctor to xray and change casts. They made him a foam cover for that arm so he could still play. They used candy corn colors one week, and candy cane colors one week, then red and green for Christmas. Most of the time, he picked blue and white for his school colors. It finally healed with no lasting effects.

A broken thumb???? Now that has to be painful. Hope it doesn't take too long to heal. She's probably more upset about not being able to play VB than she is about her broken thumb huh?

Oh, poor Abi. Jaci jammed her thumb a while back while playing volleyball and it was really bad. The coaches would tape it up before practices so it wouldn't bother her so much. I really feel for Abi having to be on the sidelines for a while, especially since volleyball has such a short season to play. Give her a hug for me!!

Ouch! I jammed a finger playing basketball in high school, I was catching a pass but the ball hit the tip of a finger and that hurt a lot! I couldn't imagine breaking it on top of that!
You know, with all this bad luck, she must have something REALLY good about to happen soon!

Thanks ya'll! Yes, she is more upset about not being able to play v-ball than having the broken thumb. The school season only lasts till the end of October, so she will likely miss most of it - 3 weeks at the very least, maybe more.
Sandy, I sure hope her break heals more quickly than your sons!
