I'll do it this week! I have to sit down and read the book and then play with it.

Joel said the GPS worked great. He now wants one. LOL

He said it was extremely simple to set, use and follow.

It really is easy! I charged it up, read up on a few things and took it with me to the city . On the way home, I stuck it up on the front window, set up my destination (home) and off I went. I made some kind of mistake at first because it was directing me uptown instead of downtown. It kept telling me it was recalculating or something.

Anyway, I reprogrammed it (at a red light) and it took me right home. It's a nice female voice and she tells me how many miles I have to go before turning on whatever street, left or right. Actually, she's kind of a nag - I expected to get yelled at for not turning because the light was red!!

I love it and can see how helpful this is when you're in unfamiliar territory. I have to finish seeing what else it does. I do wish I could have a choice of a sexy male voice, but ......

I''ll let you know what else it does. I definitely recommend it.

One thing - it tells you, for example, to make a left on 14th Avenue in 1 tenths of a mile. I don't think in miles, nor know how to judge them. But I figured out that a city mile is about 21 blocks, so 10% is about 2 blocks. That makes 1 tenth 2 blocks, and so on. I'll have to get used to it. Out of the city, I haven't got a clue.

I always thought that a mile was 10-12 blocks. Twenty-two blocks would be pretty skinny blocks. You might want to double check that.

We rented a car with GPS in Europe. It was great!!! Could not have found our hotels in the cities without it. It spoke in kilometers though. Prepare to turn right in 2 kilometers or turn right in 500 meters. It wasn't hard to judge though.

The only problem we had was needing to program for fastest route rather than shortest. Shortest in some old cities took you down some extremely narrow streets rather than the main ones.

I did! When I first programmed it, I made a mistaker and didn't follow it's directions.
It kept recalculating and trying to get me to go where it wanted. It might have turned on me (like in the movie 2001) "Dave...." so I reprogrammed it.

I looked it up and in most city it is 12 blocks, although someone somewhere measured it at 16 blocks. However, it differs from city to city.

In Manhattan, it is 20 blocks/mile.

Now where do we take that factoid?

Discuss it at the mall next time you're buying dog stuff - just mention it to the cashier. We can, of course, tell them when the aliens abduct us.

Judy, I'm concerned about you. Are you drinking before you get on here or what?

Judy, I can't imagine 20 blocks to a mile. If you divide that into a mile and subtract out some for streets then the blocks must be less than 40 yards wide. That doesn't seem possible but I've never been to Manhattan either.

LOL you ladies are such fun.
Here a block is much larger than that Judy. We don't have to squeeze as many people/buildings into it I suppose.

So as long as you stay local you should be fine. LOL Come out here and you'd be having to listen to the voices to find your way. Sounds like you've gotten used to them by now anyway though right? lol I'm not so sure you like to listen though.... and I can really relate to that.

Diana,
`
You and I are always looking things up! I love Google. I never realized that the blocks in NY are smaller than in other cities. They're a little more than 1/2 the length.
if you have 12 blocks to a mile. Our blocks are rectangular - what we call the Avenue blocks are longer.
