New Years Plans?
Okay, what do you usually do to celebrate New Years?
We usually don't do much. If we go to a party, its with some folks from church. We eat and play games. My hubby and I leave before mid-night, because he doesn't like staying out so late. Wants to get home before the people who have been drinking are on the streets. One year we went to a magic club in Houston (Magic Island) with some relatives. This year, we will either go to the church party or stay home. How about you????

Marilyn, you beat me to it...LMAO!! I was planning on starting this thread too!
We don't like taking chances with those that drink and drive either!!! We stay home (maybe a friend or two will come over), but we always have a seafood supper that we fix ourselves. We like it as much or more than Christmas. We always fix crablegs, shrimp, scallops, lobster tail and I fix those garlic/cheese biscuits like what they serve at Red Lobster. We enjoy fixing the meal together and have such a good time. Then we chow down like we've not eaten for a long time. Love that seafood!!!

My husband's family always did Chow Mein on New Years. My family did ham, mashed potatoes, blackeyed peas and cornbread. If you did not have ham and blackeyed peas on New Year's day, you would not have a good year. It was one of those tradition/superstition things. I still make this meal, just in case, even though I'm not really superstitious.

We love celebrating New Year's so much. We wait until about 6:00 PM and start cooking everything. It usually takes us awhile, we're in no hurry..lol and then eat between 7:00 and 7:30. We try to stay awake to welcome in the New Year, but usually never make it. I'm always out by 10:00. We fill up so much on the seafood, we fall asleep before midnight.

Couple of years before the Millennium five couples got together to plan a street party for the year 2000, we enjoyed each others company so much we all get together often.
So each new years eve since we have a party or go out for a meal, this year we will start down the road at one couples house for supper and then come up to our cabin in our garden to see in the new year with fireworks and drinks |

Janet, Can we come too??? We love seafood!!!!
Highlans, That sounds like it's really fun. We used to do what we called Progressive Dinners that we would have different parts of a meal in different houses. Like we would have a salad at one house, appetizers in another house and so on. I like the idea of walking down the street to your neighbors. I bet it's a lot of fun!! We usually do like Brooke. We go to a friend's house and play games and, of course, eat. A lot of other church friends will be there as well. Sometimes I have everyone here at our house. This year my oldest daughter (29) asked me about her having a party at our house and I told her that it was ok. I had forgotten all about the party and I forgot to tell my husband, so SURPRISE to us!!! We're having a pretty BIG party, I think. My husband came home the other day and said that he had heard that we were having a party and several people told him that they were coming. Mostly it will be friends from church and family. It'll be a lot of fun and we're looking forward to having it. I hope that my daughter can come up with games for that many people!!!

It sounds like you all have such fun!
We rarely celebrate New Years at all. Often I end up babysitting while hubby is on the road. LOL Greg is supposed to be on the road again this year, so I will likely spend the night home alone with the dogs. Whooopie! LOL

I thought about having an open house but, it's a little late for that...most of our friends go out...like last year and the year before we will be staying home...I'm not into the, going out, partying and driving (I don't drink ...I am usually the DD) but, it's all the others that drink and drive that make me nervous...we are safer at home...Maybe we will get Chinese food, rent a movie and then bring the year in with a BANG!! lol!!
Of course if I lived closer to Janet I would crash her party!!! I LOVE seafood!! what time is dinner again Janet??!! LOL

Tink...we stay home too, we just fix a fabulous supper. You can do that too! and then celebrate when your hubby comes home. Tell him what a wonderful New Year's Eve supper you had....bet he'll want to stay home with you next year....LOL I just wish I could stay awake till midnight. Sometimes my son and hubby do, but I just can't hold them peeper open that long.... If you lived closer I'd invite you over to eat with us! AND everyone else on 4WT too!

Wellll... We use to bring in the New Year in a very "special" way. Since Emily has gotten older we usually bring in the New Year in our "special" way later. LOL
We all stay up and watch the ball drop and then watch a few of the specials afterwards. Other than that we don't really do anything special.

Now you know Marilyn...everyone would be welcome at my house. I do have to let you know that I'm not much for playing games. Hubby doesn't mind playing games and of course my son likes to, but I'm more of a spectator than a player.
When we were first married we use to play cards once in a while. I think it was uker or something like that...but everytime we played they had to explain it to me again. Use to play poker once in a while too, but could never remember what be what without a cheatsheet. My son and I will play Uno once in a while. It's fun with a lot of people, but really fun with just the two of us.

When I was a younger (3-15) my cousins that lived close (boy & girl) & my brother & I would all go to my grandparents house for new year's eve (so our parents could go out). We'd drink sparkling grape juice play games & watch the ball drop, some of my favorite memories are from that night.
Usually my husband & I don't do much we are usually at his parents house & their isn't much to do around there. Like last year we went & saw a late show of Chronicles of Narnia & then went home & went to bed. This year we are going to be home for New Years & we get to attend my friends new years party. There will be drinking, but my husband will DD for us & we only live about 2 miles from each other on back rounds so we should get home safe. -Just a side note people that drink & drive really upset me, a guy I work with will never get his license back because he's had 3 DUI's I refuse to give him rides to work even on crappy days because I believe he needs to be punished. He totaled 2 cars while drunk by running off the road & he doesn't even feel bad about it. What if he had killed someone? A good friend of mines aunt & uncle were just killed by a drunk driver on the way home from church. I just don't get what goes through peoples minds. If you have to drive home, don't drink period. It's really not that hard. I usually drive myself places if I'm going without my husband because I don't trust anyone, but me to stay sober & get me home. Sorry to go off on a trangent, but people that drink & drive really piss me off. |

Another thing is we should not drive whilst tired a friend was killed when a lorry driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove straight into my friend. We do have lots of campaigns here against drink drive and drive whilst tired hopefully so people take heed. |
