Urgent question for rivermom hope you don't mind

you were the only person I could think of to ask. I just passed by a house with horses. One was lying on its side, head flat on the ground. As far as I know (all TV knowlegde..I know very little about horses), horses don't noramlly lay like this. It looked odd so I stopped & knocked on the door to check that everything was ok. No one is home. I have seen these people with there horses & know they care for them. first ...am I wrong in thinking the horse lying like this is bad? & 2nd if so, do you know who I should contact so the owner can be notified or the horse can be checked on?

I checked to make sure it was breathing.. it is but not moving...sorry if I'm just being crazy but it worried me.

The horse is fine, it's just asleep or resting. You just have to worry if it looks uncomfortable & is biting at it's belly. a lot of times they will lay this way before a rain.

Horses can sleep standing up, but lay down a lot. Cows also lay down to sleep in case you had the same misconception about them.

I'm sorry, I was afraid it sounded like that & I didn't mean it to. But I know a lot of people think cows only sleep standing up & they do lay down. Again I'm really sorry, I have a tendency to not phrase things correctly.

Mandy's right it was very sweet of you to be worried. I used to worry when I'd see em all stretched out like that cause it looked like were dead, but then you'd go out to check & they'd jump right up.
