SO excited!!! :)
Our passports got here today!! They were supposed to be here around July 4th and we were beginning to get worried since we're leaving in exactly a week, but they made it on time! So now we get to pack and take probiotics and all of that other fun leave-the-country type stuff.
Anyone have any travel tips or suggestions? I don't want to forget anything! lol (If the second picture looks a bit funny, it's because I blurred out all of the personal information.)

Oh sorry! I made a thread about it but it was when I first applied for the passports so that was several months ago. We're going to Mexico, two completely different parts of the country! First, we are visiting friends in Puebla, which is a nice affluent city with a university. Very touristy. Afterwards, we are going to El Rosario, which is in Hidalgo. There we will be translating for a mission group from the church Brendon used to work at. It's a VERY poor town in the middle of nowhere. We'll be building on to their church to make it more functional for their needs. It should be lots of fun and a great learning experience. It'll be my first time out of the country and Brendon's as well so we are both super excited and a bit nervous. We're leaving on the 23th and coming back either August 4th or 6th.

Wow, sounds like a nice trip. Are you flying or driving? If driving, be very, very careful!!! Hope you are prepared for hot weather, and when you are at the church, ready to eat some strange foods. Our church family helps support a congregation in a poor area of Mexico, and years that it is safe, members travel there to help them with their building and with Bible studies and such. They've had things like cow tongue tacos. Yum, yum!!

We are flying Marilyn. Actually, the temperatures shouldn't be too bad because we'll be in a pretty high altitude so it'll be comfortable during the day and maybe a bit chilly at night.
I'm definitely looking forward to the culture and the amazing scenery. There will be lots of pictures to share with you ladies when I come home!!

Angie, We received our passports two weeks ago. We are planning on going to Aruba, sometime in August.. I got to get moving..lol It took about 10 wks. when did you apply?
But anyway glad they made it in time, if not the travel agent told me that you would need to show copy of passport applications and copy of birth certificate and you could leave the country if they did not arrive.. It sounds like you are going on some adventure.. Good luck! |

My oldest daughter's been to Mexico a couple of times with our church. Be prepared to fall in love with the children. My daughter could have brought back a dozen.

We applied for passports on April 23rd, so the 12 week mark was the first week of July. Guess it just took longer for ours for some reason.
Diana, I'm sure I'll be the exact same way. Latino children are just so adorable and I know with how difficult their lives in Mexico are that I'll just want to bring some home with me. My husband and I have tossed the idea of adoption around for quite a while (even before we were married) and we will most likely end up adopting a Hispanic child some day.

Ang,
This sounds like a wonderful trip - part vacation and part community work. You're going to really enjoy yourselves. Take lots of pictures and have a wonderful, safe trip. Judy
