Need to vent...kind of...
Just a warning, this isn't a happy subject so you might not want to read on, but I really did need to get this off my chest...
Alright, so I have a class all about Child Welfare issues. The past few weeks, we've been focusing specifically on types of maltreatment (physical abuse, neglect, emotional/psychological abuse, and sexual abuse). Well, the most recent class periods have all been about sexual abuse and it's really graphic, both in the content of the material covered and the way it's covered...and on top of that, the class is three hours long. We've been going through, step by step, the processes a perpetrator must perform in order to gain "access" to a victim. Like Step 1: Overcoming Internal Inhibitors (personal moral objections, religious convictions, guilt), Step 2: Overcoming External Inhibitors ("how can I get the child alone...away from the protective parent(s)") and so on. It's so hard to have to sit through class and listen to the thought process of a pedophile and the theories as to why and how they turn out that way, patterns in their behavior, different types of pedophiles, etc, etc. I really just want to say...It doesn't matter WHY, just STOP IT and THROW HIM IN JAIL FOR LIFE! Grr... One of the saddest things I've learned is that the average perpetrator abuses 250 children during his lifetime. If that isn't scary, I don't know what is.... I come home from class and just feel like crying for a good hour or so before I feel ready to go to bed...Hopefully we'll be through this section soon...

Angie, I wouldn't be able to listen to that without getting sick.
My aunt used to be a social worker and quit her job because she finally couldn't stand to see anymore of the abuse. She's a tough, very loving lady who wanted so badly to help but it just got to be more than she could live with. As far as I'm concerned, you're studying the sickest of the sick. I have no tolerance for them and would rather see them executed than imprisoned, since that way we know they'd never get out to hurt another child.

I'd love to sit and talk with your aunt! She must be such an amazing woman to be able to do that for so long. With me, I'm working with CPS for 2 years just to have the experience, but I don't think I could do it long-term. I don't think I'd be able to take it. There's so much pain and suffering involved and one of my weaknesses is that I really feel other's pain as my own. I can't just see it and then go on with my life like it never happened... My passion is marriage counseling or working with children who have NOT been traumatized like this, just regular therapy and counseling, you know? That or working with the veterans at the VA. I just love old people.

I would have a hard time listening to it too and I agree with Tink that I'd "rather see them executed then imprisoned". Child abuse hurts the child their whole life. We have some kids that go to our church that have been abused in the past. Their home life is a mess and they've have major problems. It's so sad. I hope that you get through this section of your studies soon too.

I am sorry up front if this offends anyone. That is not my intention. I also know I am supposed to have Christian love and forgive him. In this situation, I am lacking in that spirit.
Imagine that the perpatrator is your brother and you have been telling your family for years and no one believes you and they treat you like you are wrong. Then imagine the day when you are watching Americas Most Wanted and there he is, your brother Joe Doe #3 of the nations most wanted child sexual predator. For my Mothers sake, I hope that she has passed away before he gets out of the federal pen or he just dies in there. She will fall for anything he says. I will not be able to watch it happen with out walking away from her or smashing in his face. (no he didn't hurt me, he likes little boys) |

I didnt say much on this topic in my first post, simply because i didnt want to offend anyone, but since you all feel the same about this, i will add my 2cents.
I am very sorry if my comment does offend anyone, and apologize upfront. In my opinion, anybody that abuses a child should be tied to a pole, and tortured in the same way. After that execute the ****** because a child, suffers from that for the rest of it's life, they have to live with it, and it's sickning to know, that so so many of them, walk away from it, simply because no one believes the child. I feel the same about those involved in animal abuse.

I'm sorry Michelle.
I hope my comment didn't offend you, but I am the mom of a child that was raped and have zero tolerance for it. I know most families seem to have their deviate... and the rest are decent people who are absolutely ashamed and devastated by it. Mine is one of them. I also have a murderer for a neice, so believe me I know all too well how it affects the family. I'm so sorry no one would believe you. Sadly, that's very common.

Don't worry, I am right there with you. I would say more about the situation, but this is an open forum.

You are very sweet! I hope she doesn't wind up hating me, if she takes him in when he gets out, I will not speak to her or see her any more. I know its a hard position for her but, It is hard for those kids to live a normal life now. Nothing should be made easy for him. If God has his hands on the situation, the right thing will happen.

My niece was abused
My niece was abused on Myspace another reason for minors not to go on it. She was sexually abused by a man and she'll never be able to trust men again other than her father, pop-pop and uncles. That really upsets me becasue she was your role model kinda kid: an athlete, straight A student, kind, pretty, thoughtful and all around cheery. But that was all ruined. She's told me she wishes she would have told someone before she had all the fear, anger, hurt build up inside her. I wish she would have too...it's horrible to think this could happen to any of our children and that's why we should monitor them and supervise them to make sure preventible things like this don't happen to our loved ones.

Angie - This class must be so terribly difficult to sit through. I feel for you so much. You are stong I will give you that. Honestly, I don't think I could handle it.
I am unable to comment on this thread about those who hurt children. If so I would only be banned from this site or my words bleeped out for all I have to say.
