Sick Day!

Hey ladies! I've been so busy lately, I just finally got a chance to catch up on some threads here. I woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover without the drinking! So I called in sick to work and went back to sleep. I just woke up from a 12 hour nap! I feel kind of bad for missing work but I really need to give my mind and my body a break from the stress. I've been working on a huge project and it's taking up hours of overtime. I used to never ever have headaches and now I'm getting at least one a day, sometimes lasting 4 or more hours! Right now it feels good to be laying in bed thinking "Screw it! It's a take care of myself day!" I really COULD go to work for the afternoon, but I really really really don't want to today. I think I'm just going to make some chicken noodle soup and stay here in bed with Layla cuddling beside me! This is much better than sitting at my desk in my hectic office!
What is your favorite way to treat yourself when you're not feeling well?

Hi Lindsey,

I've been thinking about posting to see if anyone knew if you were okay. I'm sorry you're sick. I usually do the same things you're doing, only with tv on.

Pamper yourself today and I hope you feel better soon.

It's good to hear from you. I missed you.

Hugs,

Thanks Judy! I think in a bit I might go sit in the living room and watch some Oprah and Dr. Phil and Ellen!
I was nervous about staying home today because I tihnk I'll be getting some comments from my roommate later. She's always saying things like "I can't believe people take sick days! I've taken one in my life and I called in from the hospital! If I can walk and breathe, I can work!" She's very much a "what I do is right" kind of person, and sometimes, especially today, I just don't feel like defending myself and what I do.

Hey Lindsey
Sorry you are under the weather. Try a chiropractor for the headaches and if that doesn't help, I have other ideas - if they keep going. I've been dealing with daily migraines for years and they are finally not every day - been through lots of interesting research on the causes of them, working with MDs and alternative practitioners from different perspectives.
Meantime, keep taking care of yourself.

sick day

Good for you for recognizing that you need a day for yourself! I work at a day spa and I talk with a lot of women who don't take a day for themselves because they feel like they don't need it or will regret it later. There's a reason why your body is telling you it doesn't want to go to work. It's TIRED

Bath's are always the best way for me to relax, and help with the headaches/migraines.

Feel Better Soon!!!

Thanks everyone! It's 3 in the afternoon here and I'm still in my pj's!
Kate- I always say I'm going to go see a chiropractor but I never have yet. My back is sore a lot, and last year I had two pinched nerves in it, and one again a couple months ago. I just can't seem to find time to do things like that for myself.
I've been taking birth control pills since I was 18, and last month I had to switch because they stopped making the kind I was taking. That's about when my headaches started, so I think they might be linked. But, that's also around the time that work started getting really hectic so it might also just be the stress.

If you just don't answer your roommate, she'll stop. I find that works wonders!

Why should anyone be proud of never taking a day for themselves? I don't see that as being emotionally healthy, but I don't like martyrs. I do like "mental health days."

Yeah I usually try to just look like I'm really busy doing something and can't really listen to what she has to say. Last time she was talking about not taking time off, I just said it's better for the company for me to take one day off, than to go in and get everyone else sick.

I actually got a vaccine for my hormonal migraines from an allergist in PA and it worked. Until several years later when something else went wrong to trigger new headaches! lol

Did you say you were in NY? Or not say? I can refer you to some very good specialists who should have this vaccine if I know where you are. You can always PM it to me if you don't want to broadcast it.

I'm actually in Canada. I think I'm going to bring up my headaches the next time I go to my doctor, and see if he can refer me to a specialist or if he thinks maybe a different birth control pill might be the answer.

I don't know about the practice of these more advanced allergists/immune system specialists in Canada. But I can find out if you need anything.

Lindsey, just pamper yourself when you need it, and take the day off without feeling bad about it. You slept so much because obviously you needed it. Hope you feel better real soon!
