Unhappy Need an ear please......

I work for county government. I've been in county government now for 23 years.
I was a baby when I started. Anywho. I had worked in another county for 19 years and then we moved because of my hubbys job. I applied at the same office up here just different county and they hired me the same day. So here goes.
I have been offered a job same county just a different office as 1st deputy.
They make more money )lots(more. I am going to take the job come the first of the year. No one but the new office holder and I know this. My friends in the office do not know. I am afraid they will be really mad and upset with me for taking this new job because i will be making considerably more money than them and they have been there longer than I have. They are my friends and have helped me though alot. They even drove 150 miles to be with me when my mom died. I don't want to lose their friendship. But I also have 2 kids in college and a new grandbaby on the way. Thanks for reading and any advice you could give.

There's a reason you've been chosen above the rest of them, and you should be proud of yourself! They sound like great friends, and if they really are, they will be proud of you too. You can't always please everyone, and I'm sure you know this. Sometimes you just need to look out for yourself. Your real friends will stick by you!

I think if they are truely your friends they will support you and be happy your getting the prmotion. I would definently take the job but if they can't understand then really do you want to be around people who want to hold you back?

You know me, I would tell them to "kiss my..... No I woudn't, just kidding!!!!! I know it can be hard for you, because if that county office is like the ones here, it'll be rough for a little while. If you show them you're still the same sweet person, then they should be okay with it. It's when we change our attitude that it can become problemsome.

Realistically, we know some people may be upset at being looked over and some may even treat you coldly for awhile. That may be awkward for you in the beginning. But in the end, you must do what is best for you and your family. If they are true friends, they will be happy for you."Those who love you, will wish you well. And those who don't can go to h@@@"

Take that job with a smile girl!! Obviously you are seen for your excellent qualities and are being recognized / rewarded for it. Friends and work at times don't mix but I am sure you will be able to handle this if any issues arise next year.

Congratulations!!!!!! Whooo-Hooo!!!!

Well obviously, they have seen your work compared to theirs, so take the job and be proud of yourself! And congrats

Congratulations and good luck!!

Maybe you can take them all out to lunch the day before it is officially announced and be real humble and sincere when you tell them about it. That might make them feel like they're in your 'inner circle' and help them to take it a little better. (After all they probably will already know... especially if it's a small office... those rumor mills can be brutal!)

Or better yet... take them to a happy hour. Let the liquor loosen their lips a little so you find out how they really feel!

Now if they will be reporting to you, that could open up a whole new can of worms. As long as you are being honest, sincere and from the heart, it should be hard for any decent person to get POd. And if they do... sic Janet on them!

Congratulations on the promotion!
Since the job was offered to you, you've obviously earned it and shouldn't have to feel bad about accepting it. Your friends will have to adjust and maybe even consider what they'd have done had it been offered to them instead!

Don't let worry over their reaction minimize your pride in your accomplishment. It's not often enough that we get a pat on the back and I'm sure yours is well deserved.
