So stressed out
Logan, my dog, has been sick now going on 3 weeks. He was sick on sunday the 23st, throwing up & such; but then seemed fine. On friday the 28th he had trouble pooping & stopped eating. We rushed him to 2 vets who told us he was dehydrated & had an irrated GI tract. We fed him rice & cottage cheese for 3 days along with stool softeners & antibotics. He's been back on his regular food since yesterday morning. We thought all was well, but now my husband tells me hasn't pooped since yesterday morning at 10:00. It could of course be because of the snow since we have 10 inches again; but it seems to me he's still not drinking as much water as he used too. I'm starting to get really concerned. The stress of this has left my nerves completely raw. I'm trying to work & everytime something goes wrong i almost freak out. I feel like crying all the time. All the tests came back normal so they are sure it's nothing more serious then just an upset stomach from all the junk around the holidays, but I'm so worried about him. I don't know what I'd do if i lost him....he is my little joy.

And to add to it; they had to take my grandpa to the hospital this morning because he was complaining of chest pains & his blood pressure was really high. His home care gave him a nitros pill i think & his blood pressure came down, but they still took him to the emergency room. He blood test came back low so they gave him blood & took him off plaxil; and sent him home. They say he'll be fine, but it's still additional worry i don't really need.

You poor thing!!! I know it can be so stressful when these babies get sick. I don't know what else you have tried, but when you thought he was getting better..can you go back to feeding him that and just feed him that for quite awhile and slowly...very slowly add his regular food? Maybe his regular food has something to do with it...have you considered feeding him something else? I have been so blessed with my four not getting sick, so I can't offer too much advice..only what I know I would do.
I'm sorry you're so stressed and now worried about your grandfather. If they sent him home, they feel it was safe to do so. We will not be able to ever stop worrying about those we love, but I have found (and it's still not the easiest thing for me to do) that if you ask God for help...he will. Hand the worries over and let him take care of things for awhile. I'll keep you in my prayers!!

I'm so sorry that your little guy is sick. I went through a few days of that with Reuger. I kept him on a soft diet for several days and a round of antibiotics too. They are so very small that it's a big worry when they're sick. I hope that he gets to feeling better.
I also hope that your grandfather is alright too. It sounds like the doctors are working on a solution for him. I know that you're worried right now about the dog and your grandfather but a nice long leisurely bath might be just the thing for you. Light some candles and take a magazine or book and just relax. It sounds like you deserve some "Me" time.

My prayers are with you for both Grandpa and your little dog. I hope they both recover fully very soon.

Thank you for your prayers, they are much appreciated. I think I need to get in some hot tub time tonight. I'm sure everything will be fine, it's just hard because there are no instant fixes right now.
We followed the doctors order to a T, but I'm afraid is stomach is still too sensitive. I may either mix cottage cheese with his hard food or soften it will water to help it pass. My little guy isn't that little at 12.5 lbs, but it still kills me that he doesn't feel good. Maybe he'll start to feel better now that we're all getting back to our routines. As far as grandpa goes, they took him off the Praxil & he's supposed to see his doctor on friday to see alternatives for it. I think they think it's the blood thinner that's causing the problem. We have him for dinner tonight and it looks like we'll definitely be staying in. It's bitterly cold here & we've got 10-12 inches of snow so getting out and about with him probably isn't safe tonight anyway. Again thank you for the prayers. |

I think we all know what to do to de-stress, but it's so hard. We as women are the ones who are suppose to make things better, but sometimes we need someone to make things better for us. I don't think we will ever stop worrying completely.
That snow sound awful. We only have a dusting on the ground and in the next few days will be warming up..Yay.

Ponyup - Deep breaths and keep in touch with your vet. I agree with going back to the soft diet of your fur baby's food. See if he will drink Pedialite for human kids. It's sweeter and might entertain Logan's taste buds a bit. Possibly some low sodium / homemade chicken broth.
I'm sorry about your Grandfather too. I'm glad he's back home. Keep taking those relaxing bath and "you" moments. Hang in there.

Logan pooped last night & is acting like himself this morning, like nothing was ever wrong. We gave him some canned pumpkin last night & we're keeping in the fridge in case we need it, but he seems like he feels good again.
Grandpa looked better last night then he did tues. He is supposed to go back in for tests today & see his regular doctor tomorrow. I'm sure they'll get it figured out, but at 90 even simple things seem to cause problem. Thank you for your thoughts & prayers, I tend to get a little worn when too many things go wrong at once. Plus even though I love the holidays the constant go go going can wear on me also. It's kinda nice to be back to my old routine. |

I'm glad today isn't as stressful for you andLogan is back to his normal self.
You are right about 90 being a delicate age. I wish him well.
