Looking forward to tonight

Tonight I'm going over to my friends Sarah and Ryan's house. They are a young married couple who are very similar to Brendon and me. Anyway, we are having a truly "Southern" dinner...fried chicken, mashed potatoes, some veggies, and for dessert--peach cobbler and vanilla icecream! YUM!

I hope everyone else has a fun Friday night as well!

Oh yum Angie. A great meal with great company. It doesn't get any better than that! I am always so envious of those who can fry up chicken so tasty. I think that I am a pretty good cook but oh do I stink when it comes to frying chicken.

Hope your evening was a blast.

I think frying chicken is almost an art. lol! You have to have just the right seasonings in the breading, the perfect temperature and amount of oil, and just the right cooking time. Keep trying! I'm sure you'll get it!

(By the way, I only know all that from watching Ryan do it because I sure as heck have never done it myself.)

They must be really good friends to make you such a wonderful meal!!! That sounds like the meal that my daughter made for my birthday and it was yummy!! I love fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy!!!

I don't "fry" mine anymore because of the oil, but I use the recipe on the Bisquick box and it's alot like fried but I think that it's lower fat. It's so easy because you just bake it in the oven and turn it over once while it's baking. I scrape off the crumbs and put in a skillet to make gravy out of. Very easy and less mess!

BTW-Jaci says to tell everyone HI!!!

I quit trying to "fry" that chicken - especially after my last attempt...

My parents were over and the plan was to fry a chicken dinner for them. The norm for me is to cook mass quantities of food so with this in mind I had to fry the chicken in batches. While one batch fried I had the other in a hot oven to keep the pieces warm. My assembly line of frying went on without a hitch. Fry, blot, thrown in the oven, fry, blot, thrown in the oven.....

Meanwhile getting the rest of the meal ready took awhile and it seems that the fried chicken might have stayed in the oven a tad too long.

All of us sitting around the table taking their first bite of chicken, poof!!! Nothing but fried skin. The chicken inside was cooked beyond anything but air. I don't know if any of you ever watched the movie National Lampoon's Christmas vacation, but it was just like their turkey meal. Oh gosh it was awful but we all giggle about it now.

Maybe you should try cooking a smaller amount for just you and your husband. I bet that it would be a lot better and not over cooked. It makes for funny memories though. We have some of gravy not coming off of the spoon!!!!!

That's a good idea. I bet it would be easier with a smaller amount.

Hmm, I'll remember to steer clear of your gravy Diana.

I have a sister-in-law who makes gravy that tastes like bisquit dough. We steer way clear of her cooking!!!

Gravy was the hardest thing for me to learn how to make and I had a couple of times that it wouldn't come off of the spoon, but now......I make excellent gravy!!!!!
