Passing it on
Last night, hubby and I were checking out at the grocery store ($338), with one lady in line behind us. That lady let a young man in front of her because he only had a pack on hamburger buns, so I asked the clerk to scan the man's item to my bill so he could go. He offered to pay me, but I told him I'd rather him remember and do a kind deed for someone else - PASS IT ON.
The clerk was flipping out. She said in her many years of working there, she had never seen anybody do something like that. Of course, I looked at the lady behind me and told her not to even think about it! We had a good laugh. My hubby was very proud of me, but he's used to me doing stuff like that. I'm bragging on myself, but it made me feel good to have the opportunity and be able to do something simply with goodwill for somebody.

Well done Sandy, I too love doing things like that. The look on the persons face is well worth the price of the item.

I must admit, I haven't done that, don't remember if there has ever been the opportunity. My favorite good thing to do is ask an elderly person sitting alone at a restaurant to sit with us. I hate to see someone sitting all alone.

With the economy what it is, I occasionally see people at check out with change... several dollars worth of change, trying to pick up milk and bread and at times coming up a bit short. I automatically hand them just enough to get what they've picked out.
It's usually less than a dollar, they probably forgot to add the tax in when they were tallying it in their head on the way to check out... but it makes both me and the person I've helped feel better about the day. There's really nothing better for the soul than to do a random act of kindness for someone. What makes me really proud is that all 3 of my kids have done it too. My son saw a man trying to make it out the door of a convenience store one night with a sandwich in his hand. He got stopped by the manager just before he got out... and was confronted. Joel said he could just see the desperation in the mans tear-filled eyes, so he stepped in and paid for the sandwich. It made him feel good to be able to help, and to know the guy at least got something to eat. The manager allowed himself to be talked out of pressing charges and let the guy go.

It does make you feel good to know that you've done a kind thing. Has anyone seen the move "Pay it Forward"? It would be so nice to live in a world where people where kind and giving to each other.

My little baby Andy I got as a gift from sweet lady who breeds them after my first one died. This lady had never met me but wanted to make sure I didn't go through life without a baby of my own. All she asked in return was to something kind to someone else. Having Andy has changed my whole life and my dh we couldn't imagine our lives without our "son".
