Hubby's Half-Sister
I'm sure I've probably told you about my husband's half-sister. She's the baby of the family at 40 years old. She was catered to by my in-laws and they bailed her out of sooo many situations. She is the reason or part of the reason that my in-laws had over $80,000 in credit card debt when they passed.
Anyway, Sunday evening we rec'd a call from a storage unit company telling us that Samantha hadn't been paying for rental of the unit. They usually just throw things out or try and sell them, but they found a lot of family pictures and baby photos and recognized the Knox name because of the floral business. Since hubby had to work on Monday, I met the guy at the storage unit and she still had so much stuff there. We didn't want to lose all the photos, the other stuff didn't really matter so I went and loaded everything up and brought it home. Samantha now lives in Illinois and has been an alcoholic her whole adult life. We couldn't believe the things she had secretly taken without our knowledge. That is why I haven't been on very much the last few days. I had to go through everything. We found pictures of Rick's great-great-great grandmother. I have a family tree that his grandmother had done and since there were some names on these very old pictures, now we know who they are. It's been a trip, but it was sad too at times going through all that stuff. It was just like going through everything when hubby's parents passed, including how dirty everything was and covered in mouse droppings. I wanted to also save her children's baby pictures, there are three, two in there late teens and one in her early twenties. I couldn't believe she would not pay the rental and risk losing all those precious photos. Granted, they are just photos, but I wouldn't want to lose any of Ricky's if it was under my control. Today my good sister-in-law on hubby's side came out and we decided since we paid her up-to-date we would take what we wanted and the rest we will donate. The kids' pictures, I will go through and when they are out on their own, I will send their baby and childhood pictures to them....not their mother. She obviously doesn't care about the photos. So...that's what I've been up to. Wow...didn't realize this was so long...sorry.

It's sad to hear that her alcoholism seems to have taken over her life - I'm sure that her children will appreciate that you have saved their pictures!

I agree with Dobie's response. You were forward thinking for the children's sake and should feel good about that.

Janet im so glad you took those pictures, for one thing why would she put her babies pictures in storage! That's crazy.. i have tons of photo's of Micah, pictures, i even downloaded everything, and save to cd's... i have copies everywhere for him when he gets older, you could never replace those pictures once gone, and for her to leave them in storage with rats running around is crazy.. You did a good things Janet and her kids will thank you one day.
Sorry to hear about her situation,,, alcohol ruins people, i should know that one..Turns them into someone you just don't want to be around....
