It's OK Albert
A woman is in a grocery store and happens upon a grandpa and his poorly behaving 3 year-old grandson. At every turn, it's obvious gramps has his hands full with the kid screaming for candy in the candy aisle, cookies in the cookie aisle; same for fruit, cereal and soda. Meanwhile gramps is working his way around saying in a controlled voice, "Easy Albert, we won't be long, easy boy"
Another outburst and she hears gramps calmly say, "It's OK Albert, just a couple more minutes and we'll be outta here, hang in there." At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items from the cart and gramps again in a controlled voice is saying, "Albert, Albert, relax buddy, don't get upset -- we'll be home in five minutes; stay cool, Albert". Very impressed the woman goes up to gramps as he's loading the kid and the groceries into the car and says, "You know sir, it's none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. The whole time you kept your composure and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be OK. Albert is very lucky to have you for his grandpa". "Thanks, lady," said gramps, "but I'm Albert -- the little brat's name is Johnny".

Oh so funny....I think I've been there too...LOLOL
I do have.....ANOTHER STORY....LOLOL A neighbor that used to live down the road was telling me that she had her daughter Jill later in life. When she was in town one day when Jill was very small, Jill was being a holy terror. Running through the store, hiding in the clothes racks and just not listening to her mother. After the clerk had rang up her items she told my neighbor that she had a very lovely granddaughter. I asked my neighbor if it hurt her feelings since Jill was NOT her granddaughter and she said, "heck no, I was just thankful she didn't think she was MY daughter." I'll never forget that story for as long as I live...LOLOL.

I read something years ago about how we feel responsible when our children act up. I think it was in a Reader's Digest. The author was sharing a story about when she was in a button store. Her little girl jumped out a drawer of buttons, and she, of course, felt responsible. Her point was that later on she realized that she did not dump the buttons, so not to feel 100% responsible.
For some reason, I bought that concept and didn't fall apart when Jessie was little and did something she shouldn't in public. I do not agree with her anymore, but it got me through. It really is so difficult to take them out sometimes. She would go from table to table in a restaurant and say hello to everybody. Not so cute for everyone concerned. The good thing is that they usually have their own children and find out that payback sucks!

Cute story! Sometimes I feel that way when I'm around other people's kids. When I shopped my kids were never allowed to run around and be rowdy because I'd have them stand in a corner somewhere. I was a very strict mom and I received a lot of compliments on my kids when they got a little older.
