My Daughter's Vacation.....

My SIL, Jason, is from Pennsylvania and since he and Amy have been married they've never been back to visit his family. His Mom has been here a few times and his Grandmother too but there's a lot more family. Jason, Amy, and the girls left yesterday to go and visit them. They're going to Washington, DC, first then to PA.

On Sunday Glen and I went out of town for lunch and while we were there we talked about getting a movie and some stuff to do on the trip for the girls because they don't travel well. It ended up that we stopped at a Dollar store and we spent about $50 on stuff for them then we came home and wrapped it all up! They had 45 gifts in all and we wrote different times on them to be opened. A package of chalk was to be opened when they left Kansas so they could chalk all the corners they turned at so they could find their way back home. Some gifts were to be opened at certain miles, like 300 miles, 400 miles, etc. One was to be opened before they ate....it was hand sanitizer, one when they snacked....baby wipes. We bought some of those oversized sunglasses and Amy and Jason were to open them when they were passed St. Louis and then they'll get $10 each if they wear them in a restaurant and take a picture for us to keep!!! I've talked to Amy a couple of times and they are really enjoying the gifts!! She said that she keeps thinking that Jason's going to ask her a question about the map and all he wants to know is when they get to open the next gift!! We even have gifts for them to open on the way home!!! The first one is a poster of the United States and Glen put the word Home on all of the states with an arrow pointing our direction!! It sounds like they're having great fun with it and we're so glad that we did it!!!

I talked to Amy this morning, Janet, and they had just gotten into southern Indiana!!! And they're only going to be about 3 or 4 hours from Judy when they get to PA. I shoulda' jumped in the car with them!!!!

Yes you should have!!! I think your idea was the neatest idea Diana. I bet they are having a great time opening all the gifts....how fun.

I'm glad Jason will get to spend some time with his family....that's been awhile.

I just talked to Amy and they're in West Virginia and thinking about stopping for the night, maybe. She said that they took the big sunglasses and put them on, rolled the windows down and waved at people, so if anyone saw this.........that was MY daughter!!!!! LOL

OK Diana..you officially win the WORLDS BEST GRANDMA award!!!!!! What a BRILLIANT idea!! I bet they're having a blast!!!!!!!!!

I talked to Amy this morning and they were about 100 miles from DC and it's pouring down rain. I think that they're going to change their plans and go to a museum today and do the outside stuff tomorrow. It sounds like they're having a really good time. Everyone is enjoying all of the gifts. The last one they opened had a pair of tops with a light inside.

I think they're going to be gone for 10 days. It depends on how things go with Jason's Mom. They have some problems with her. They could possibly be home earlier. but I doubt it.

You are the best Diana! What a great idea...and how loving you both are to take all the time to think it through and label everything.

Tell Amy that If Jason's mother gives them a hard time, they can come to my house. You really should have come. We would have had so much fun. We're having yard sales galore around here.

I called Amy on Sunday moring and they were in Hershey, PA. They were still in the motel and were getting ready to spend the day there. I don't know what they ended up doing there. I'll find out later. Sunday night they were planning on staying at Jason's mom's house (her name is Diane!!!).

I hadn't talked to them for a couple of days because I knew they were touring Washington. Amy said that once is enough and that they probably won't be going back. She said the traffic was horrible!!! They moved at 10 mph, there were sirens going off everywhere, cars honking, and people everywhere!!!! They took a tour bus and said that was good except they still had to do a lot of walking. The girls were bored with everything except the Museum of Natural History. She had her camera battery run down and Kera's memory card got full so they missed getting some pictures. I warned her about having an extra memory card so she wouldn't miss getting any pictures.

I hope that all goes well at Jason's mom's house. She has made such a fuss over Kera because she looks like her and hasn't done much for Daya. I hope she doesn't play favorites with the girls. It would really upset me if she didn't treat Daya well.

Judy, I tried to talk them into taking me but they wanted a family vacation. I figure that some day I'll just fly in and visit you!!!!
