School starts next week

Well, this is the last week before classes start on the 25th. We have a faculty breakfast in the morning, followed by a short meeting with the nurse practitioner faculty, then new faculty orientation. It will be a BUSY day - but lots of fun!

New student orientation is Wednesday - I always love when the new students come. They are so eager to start. I'm so lucky to be teaching graduate students who are all here because they want to be and they are really glad to be here. It is a pleasure to get them started.

So, my summer is over, it is back to school everyday - I don't mind at all though. I still love it and I am so lucky to have a job that I love! Now, ask me in October (middle of the semester) and I might be singing a different tune! LOL!!!

So good to know you're looking forward to it Gayle. I usually am, but I needed a bit more time this year...

We started at the elementary and high school last Wednesday so this will be our first full week of school. You are so blessed to have a job that you really love. I do like driving the bus and the kids....but it's not something I 'love'.

I never looked forward to teaching for the Dept of Ed, but I loved my kids, so it worked out. I always looked forward to teaching my college classes though. I enjoyed them so much.

Have fun tomorrow, Gayle!

Oh, Gayle, so hope that you have some really good students and enjoy your year!!! Our girls and SIL will be going back very soon. Melissa's taking her one last pre-req to be able to apply for the RN program at VC. She has to retake A&P this fall. The 4 hr course she took at Texas State won't transfer to VC. This doesn't make since to me. A university course is not acceptible for a community college. Oh well, but it delays her one semester. She went ahead and got a CNA this summer so she would have some experience going in.

She also realized that she's not far from having a bachelors in English, so this semister she's taking some courses in that direction too. She may have a degree in English before she finishes her RN. Then hopeful she will start working on her BSN. Guess a little extra education never hurts!!

I've never taught anything but college kids, but I can imagine that there is a world of difference. Most people in college are there because they want to be and especially in a major (rather than general education classes). So, they are motivated and want to learn.

I had forgotten that you had a job, Gayle!!! I've gotten so used to having you on here all summer that it completely slipped my mind!!! I'm sure that you're a great teacher!! I can tell that you really enjoy what you do. I think that your students are very fortunate to have such a caring and knowledgeable teacher as you!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear that! It shouldn't be that way. I have a similar story. When I moved to Austin 24 years ago, I had taught for 6 years in a Baccalaureate nursing programs at at a major university. Since there was only one baccalaureate program in Austin (UT), I applied at both UT and at Austin Community College (ACC) as they had an ADN program. Much to my surprise, I got a form letter from ACC telling me I wasn't qualified for a position in the ADN nursing program because I had no community college teaching experience. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! LOL!!! Fortunately, UT hired me and the rest is history!

It's seriously looking like she may get two. One in nursing and another in English. She's smart enough to do it all. Her husband is really smart, too. He practically has a photographic memory. It's amazing what he can do. Definitely raises the bar. If their kids inherit the smarts from both of them, I'm not sure what they could accomplish. Wish we still had it.
