Jalapeno weenies
This is an old family recipe from Gary's mom. I've made a couple of jars in the past month so I thought I'd share with you. My family is wild about these weenies. But I know some of you probably don't like to eat weenies.
4 lbs. weenies (can use lower fat) cut up into bite sized pieces Boil 5 minutes Bring to boil and boil for 1 minute: 24 oz sliced drained jalapenos (can use less) 1 large chopped onion 4 cloves of garlic, sliced 3 cups water 1 & 1/2 cup white vinegar salt and pepper to taste Layer weenies and juice mix in a gallon glass jar. Does not need to be refrigerated. Later, can add 2 more lbs of boiled weenies to same juice.

That sounds interesting, Gayle. Then do you just snack on them or do you serve them on buns?

Too spicy for my stomach, but they sound yummy!
My first husband's last name is Weiner. You can just imagine how Jessie was teased in school. She changed it "for professional reasons" when she started working. She used Jessica Leigh. (That's why all my girl dogs have the middle name Leigh). When I started teaching, the kids would laugh at my name, so I started using Judy Bloom. Much better! I was legally Judy Bloom, but I never trusted the Bd. of Ed. to keep all of my records in order if I changed it with them after I changed it back to Bloom. That is my maiden name.

Oh Judy, I can just imagine how mercilessly Jesse was teased!!! I would have changed my name too. A lot of my professional friends use their maiden name, just never changed it.
Diana, you eat them as snack food. It is good for Gary since it doesn't raise his blood sugar -not that weenies are a good food - but he can snack on them throughout the day and not raise his blood sugar. Yep Judy, they are spicy!

Let me know if you like them - in my tiny little town where I grew up, my best friend's dad owned the only bar in the town, so I spent lots of time there with her (not when there were customers). We ate LOTS of pickled eggs, weenies, pickles and the like. This recipe is Gary's mom's and she always made it at holidays or for any big get together.
