We made a flying trip today

Not in an airplane - but in the car. We drove down to the deer lease (the old one that is 2 1/2 hours away) to fill up the feeders. All went well till we got to the last of 3 feeders.

The lid had blown off and so the feeder was full of wet, moldy, rotten, stinky corn. Oh, and the feeder is a 55 gallon drum, on legs, so the top is about 10 feet off the ground. So here I am, standing on the TOP of a ladder, with a 1 lb. coffee can, scooping 200 lbs of wet, moldy, rotten, stinky - and sometimes hard as concrete, corn. As you can imagine, that was not a fun nor easy job! I got it out almost down to the bottom, but then I couldn't reach the bottom (I'm only 5'2" tall), so Gary had to scoop out the last little bit. Some of it was so hard that I had to chop it with an axe - so much fun!

We thought the timer and battery would be ruined because water had run down through the barrel and into the box that held them, but they were OK - so we filled it back up with non-rotten corn and hopefully, the lid will not blow off again. Gary said that had only happened to him one other time in the past 20 years!

After 4 hours of FUN, we got in the truck and drove home again! WHEW! I'm GLAD to be home!!!

Paula..those deer are huge and beautiful! I don't know how anybody could shoot one...my husband included!

Gayle... I have this image of you on top of a ladder, bent over in to a deer feeder, scooping out rotten corn....

I don't know what our men would do without us

Yes, and I'm sure there was plenty of plumbers crack showing too! Or maybe that's "bent over the feeder" crack

Thank you Gayle. I looked out the kitchen window that morning and there they were. They are so pretty. There are a bunch of them that live in the hills around here. I have seen some of the prettiest fawns around the curve from me. As soon as I get the chance, I'll take pictures, they are fast lil buggers

Gayle, you have me beat!!! People can't imaging me wade fishing, well I can't imagine you digging nasty corn our of a deer feeder either. Having grown up on a farm and dealing with corn, I know how nasty and moldy it can get. YUCK!! You have my respect for doing that for hubby, for sure!!

Paula, you have a beautiful front yard, wow. I can't let hubby see this pic. He's never loved south Texas, just tolerated it for me and it is a good place to raise children. His heart is farther north.

What a beautiful picture, Paula!! We have deer around us but with the dogs around they don't come too close to the house. We also have a lot of trees so you can hardly see them anyway. Before we built our house Glen and I were walking around here and we came up on a little fawn. So precious!!

Gayle, you had a stinky job!!! I hope your husband took you out to eat after that!!! You certainly deserved it!!!

Thanks for your compliments on that pic. I took it out my kitchen window. I was gonna ask you Gayle.. do you hunt? I know some people who go to leased property in November in Illinois to hunt deer. Personally I couldn't kill one, they're so cute... but alot of people that I know do hunt deer.

Yes, I have hunted and I have shot deer, but I would really rather just sit and watch them. Almost everyone in my family hunts something. Even my 13 year old granddaughter - she fishes and hunts too. I grew up on the farm, we raised and butchered beef, chickens and pigs. I'm used to raising and hunting animals for food - so it doesn't bother me - but now, I'd just rather sit and watch the animals.
