Later this week.....
Gary and I are going to Florida. I have a business conference and he's just tagging along. We fly in to Ft. Meyers - that's on the gulf (west) side of Florida and then we have to drive 36 miles out to Captiva Island. It's a pain (in my opinion) to get out there.
I've been to this conference at this location one other time and I really didn't care too much for it. There is only one HIGH END restaurant and a pizza joint at the resort. You have to drive back to some of the little villages between the resort and Ft. Meyers to get any decently priced food. There is NO PLACE for breakfast, so Gary will have to starve while I'm gone to the conference during the day. Actually, he is not a breakfast eater, so we'll just keep snacks in the room. The resort is VERY old, but has been remodeled so it is pretty nice. Anyway, like I said, it was too much of a pain the last time I was there, so I was not looking forward to going back. But today I looked up the resort on the internet and an aerial view of the resort popped up. HOLY COW! Gary and I are going to have to look around a bit. Here is the link, just scroll through some of these pictures! http://www.southseas.com/photo_tour/hotel.cfm

Oh, you poor thing! I just looked at the photos, and my heart goes out to you, Gayle. I will go in your place if you want, to save you from having to ....let's see....sit on the beach at sunset, lounge by the water in the warmth and relax, sleep in that terrible, all white, beautifully decorated room, etc.
By the way, I see they have a Starbucks so Gary can have breakfast.

You are right, they do have Starbucks - BUT - he would have to get up and take me to the conference hall - which is about a mile from the room (yes, I could walk, but it's very humid and I'm all dressed up), in order to have the car to get to Starbucks which is a loooong way from the room. Now, do you think I'm gonna get him outa that white bed early in the morning! Nope. NOW, I can go to Starbucks, get breakfast and take it back to him which is closer to what will happen! It is a beautiful place and I am very lucky to get to visit such places!

You are a good wife!
I still don't feel sorry for you, and will be happy to go in your place.

Oh Gayle I feel so sorry for you too-NOT!!!
What a beautiful place! The views from the balcony are breath taking! If it were me, conference or not, I would make it a point to enjoy the heck outta this place. Even if it is just relaxing in that beautiful room and looking out over the ocean. Have a safe trip and a good time Be sure to let us know how it went. Tell Gary to enjoy his days in that gorgeous room |

I know, I am very fortunate to get to travel some with my job. The problem comes when I have to travel and Gary is not doing well. In fact, I was supposed to attend this conference last year (it was in San Diego) and he ended up having tests for a lung blood clot so I didn't go. It turned out he did not have the blood clot - so that was good, but it still changed my travel plans.
I don't mind traveling, but it is more complicated if I am leaving Gary or even taking him with me. Just the same, I know how lucky I am to get to go to these beautiful places - even if I didn't realize how pretty it was the last time I went ! Wish us luck getting there. I refuse to get there after dark, because of the drive out to the island has very complicated directions to get there, so we are flying Southwest into Ft. Meyers. We have to fly to Orlando and then only have 30 minutes to make our connection to Ft. Meyers. I hope the walk to the gate is not too far because Gary can't walk far or fast. Some airports have carts to take you to your gate, but some only have wheel chairs and Gary hasn't yet agreed to be pushed in the w/c. Hopefully, the plane will be early and we will make it to the gate in plenty of time.

Can you call the Orlando airport and check the distance between planes, or maybe arrange for a cart to meet you at the incoming flight? I hope it works out well, and that both of you do get to enjoy this beautiful island.

Really......what a beautiful place!!! I'm sure that you'd enjoy it a lot more if you didn't have meetings to go to. Hmmmm.......I wonder what things rent for.......that would be a wonderful family vacation place!!!!

Gayle... no sympathy from me either lol! You may have a conference in the day but you get to spend your evenings enjoying such a beautiful place! I think that would be a nice break from working all day and spending the evening at home!

It was 1 degree here this morning, so I definitely would like to change places with you.
I hope the trip was easy for you and Gary. I know we all teased you, but we all do know that it is hard for you to travel. We are always here for you, Gayle. Enjoy that beautiful island!
