Teachers?
I am an elementary school teacher. I teach 4th grade in a small catholic school in a very rural Kentucky town. I paid my dues in public schools and I must say that it paid off, because I LOVE private school!!! It's a lot of work, but it is very gratifying. I can't imagine working anywhere else!!!

I am!
I'm a 1st grade teacher in a public school. Actually, it is my old elementary school! I love being back there. This is so far the only place I've taught (besides student teaching). I love it. I can't imagine being elsewhere. |

Hi Kriston. I was a Catholic school teacher for 1 year. I taught 7th grade and as you can imagine it was the hardest year of my life!! I quickly decided that teaching was not for me and gave up after that first year. I have the greatest admiration for teachers. My husband worked for the NYC public school system for 13 years before switching to the Catholic School system two years ago. He was 4th grade in public school and now he teaches 6th grade. He feels pretty much the same as you. Much more work but greater satisfaction. I don't know how it is in your state but here in NY, Catholic school teachers are paid substantially less than their public school counterparts so my husband actually took a pay cut. My mom also works as a computer teacher at an alternative H.S. for emotionally disturbed teens. Between listening to her horror stories and watching my husband disappear behind a mountain of papers to grade, I know I made the right decision in leaving the field. It takes a special kind of person to put themselves through all that. Teachers are the best!!

Growing up I always dreamed of being a 1st or 2nd grade teacher. I thought that was what I wanted more than anything. Then I met my husband and my dreams just kind of got lost. I regret so much that I didn't go on to college to fulfill my dream. So now I'm a school bus driver. I think being a teacher is one of the hardest jobs and appreciate the truly dedicated ones out there.

Yes, I can hold conversations. I only teach basic Spanish so I don't know everything (then again I don't know everything in English either LOL), but I did go to Ecuador for a month...and I survived! LOL

Not a teacher but I work for the school system at the best elementary school in town. Since I draw teacher's retirement...that's gotta count for something, right?
