Wood Floors
YIPPEE! We had the carpet ripped out of our final two bedrooms and put hardwood floors down. They did it on Monday and I am sooooo glad!!!
We put wood down 7 years ago, right before Gary got sick and he and my sil did it. We loved it so much. My mom didn't want hardwood in her TV and bedroom so she put down new carpet. Now, 7 years later, the carpet looked AWFUL! So, we put in the wood. It is just gorgeous. I almost had a heart attack though, when we went to get the wood for the bedrooms - the company that made our wood in the living room and our bedroom, had gone out of business. So, we had to try to match it as the two bedroom are off the living room. Well we were so lucky - we found a perfect match. Oh, if you know they are different and get down on your hands and knees, you can tell they are not the same - but to the eye, standing and looking, they look identical. We were very lucky! The old carpet was just gross - I'm so glad to have it out of our house! Of course, little Yorkie sprinkles didn't help either.

I want to get our carpet out too, but don't know if I'm staying here or not. Time will tell. Our carpet looks horrible, but I'll never get carpet again. I bet yours is beautiful Gayle. Have you taken any pictures?

Wood is so beautiful! Enjoy your new floors Gayle. I love carpeting, but not with yorkies! They think it's just one giant pee pad!
Take some pix please.

Gayle, I bet that it looks just beautiful!!! How fortunate that you found some that closely matched what you had!!!!
I would like to get rid of the carpet in my living room. It's starting to look bad.....mostly because it's somewhat light and was dirty spots in front of the couch and main sitting areas. Glen's NOT a carpenter though so I may have to talk my son and son-in-laws to do it for me some winter. I know what you mean about the dogs using it for a huge pee pad!!! I have a baby gate so the dogs can't get into the guest rooms so at least they're fairly clean. Ornery dogs!!!!!

I guess every one of us with dogs wishes we didn't have any carpet, lol! The dogs I have now are very well house trained, but that hasn't always been the case Show us pics when you get a chance please ma'am!

Here's some pix - but the color isn't right. It's not as "red" as it appears in the pictures.
1. The new floor in the bedroom - but the color is too red - the wood is oak, so you know it isn't really that red. 2. A close up shot of the new wood in the bedrooms 3. The existing wood in the living room that we had to match 4. close up of the existing wood in the living room Pictures 2 and 4 (a close up of the new and old wood) look much more alike than pictures 1 and 3! It really does look much better in person!!!

I like the flooring Gayle! Pix 2 and 4 look alot alike.
I would like to have all wood floors. But I chose to put carpet back in the living room last fall. I now wish I had chosen wood. I think I have a couple of little doggies that pee on it occasionally. It's shag so it doesn't show anything. |

By the way....what do you all use to clean your wood floors? I use a shark on mine. It does pretty good. But was wandering what others use that of course is pet friendly. How about Murphy's Oil Soap? Anybody used that? Last edited by paula1961; 07-03-2010 at 05:10 AM. |

Thanks Gayle. I have two rooms with wood flooring. I have used the swiffer wet jet in the past but later heard that it wasn't safe for the dogs. I couldn't find anything on the bottle that said it was harmful though. But to be safe...I stopped using it.
I like the shark but it gets heavy after a while. |

OK, here's the scoop. It is Orange Glo 2 in 1, wood floor cleaner. DO NOT get the 4 in 1 wood floor cleaner (at least that's what my daughter says). Walmart has the 4 in 1, but I couldn't find the 2 in 1 there. Bed Bath and Beyond is supposed to have the 2 in 1, but the one I went to didn't. My daughter finally found a couple of bottles for us at Target.
There is also an Orange Glo 2 in 1 furniture cleaner/polish - and you do not want that.

I bought a steam cleaner for my floors. They are pet safe since they only use water. I don't know if that's good for the wood though. They do leave moisture behind no matter what the TV commercials tell you!~ I can't use it because my floor is laminate and the water spots show.
Your wood is beautiful Gayle! You really did a great job matching the other wood! Enjoy your lovely floors! By the way, dogs do not necessarily stop marking after being neutered. They do it much less if you are lucky, and some stop altogether, but there is no guarantee. Max still marks, but not nearly as much as he did before he was neutered.
