MRI Results

Well i got the result's of the MRI on my lower back and I am not a happy camper.
My family Dr say's it looks like I have a fragment in my lower spin area that is affecting my nerve and probably causeing the pain down my leg. He is referring me to the Dr that did my ruptured disc surgery.

Gayle is this common after a back surgery? I really do not want to have another surgery , are there any other options?

I don't know much about back problems and surgery - except to say that it is very common to have to have more than one surgery. Often the first one isn't successful at all (although they are much more successful now than in the past). Gary's uncle had 4 - and now he is doing good, but it took several years. I'm so sorry that you MIGHT (not will) have to have another surgery, but it does happen. I'm sorry, I don't know about other options. Please keep us posted.

Oh Lynne....I know you don't want another surgery, but if it will help...

The way you were limping on Sunday....I know that can't be comfortable for you. I'll try and give you a call later.

Well I had 2 cortizone shots in my lower spin area (and yes it hurt like heck) and i feel much better. I still feel a little catch in my back if i move just a certain way, or if i sit too long in one position like at work but over all i feel much better. I just hope the shots work long enough for the herniated disc to repair itself, if not then i will probably have to have the surgery to repair it. But so far so good LOL

You know you're in my prayers always. Hopefully it will heal and no surgery will be needed.

Is that a bad sign for back problem? If I'm driving for more than 20 min my lower back hurts like H***. Carrying my backpack to school gives me bad back pain also. What can I do to prevent back problem?

I hope you feel better Lynne, because if your pain is greater than mine I feel so bad for you.

Jessica, I would suggest you try physical therapy for your lower back pain. Most of us have some sort of back pain, but what you describe is too much. I always have lower back pain, but I strained it a few years ago and thought it would go away. The pain lasted for 6 months and then I finally went to PT. It helped so much and now I know what to do if it starts hurting again. Usually it is lack of proper muscle strength in the abdomen that causes low back pain (in the absence of a disk problem, that is).

Thanks Gayle I think I will seek a PT. If I used to work on any muscle in my body it's always abdominal and I used to do a little for my back. I believe it was due to my pregnacy Not sure when it started but I have been having this issue for years.
