Mom's Heart Cath..........

My Mom had her heart cath done yesterday, Monday. (Remember she had a heart attack that they found in a stress test.) Things didn't turn out quite as well as we expected. The doctor found an artery that was 100% blocked, one that was 50-60% blocked, and another that was 80% blocked. It turned out that the one that was totally blocked had already re-routed it's self......and they didn't seem to be too concerned with the 50-60% blocked one......but the 80% blocked one they called in another doctor and he put in two stents.

We were very surprised because my Mom hasn't had ANY symptoms, nor any pain. The doctor had even given her the option to wait and see if she had symptoms before even doing the heart cath but with her family history Mom wanted to go ahead and check things out. It was a good thing too!!!

Mom's back home and doing well. She hasn't had any pain or problems with the procedure. My step-dad, Art, is worried about Mom.....He lost a wife in her sleep so it's hard to think of losing another wife, but I reassured him that Mom's still in great shape. My Mom has a Cardio-glider that she does 500 reps on every morning plus she watches what she eats. This problem is definitely genetics!!!! Yikes!!!

Boy, symptoms for men and women can be so different! It's kinda scary that your mom had that much blockage and didn't know it I'm so glad she could have stents and didn't have to have bypass surgery! She'll feel like a new woman now

Although I know you would have preferred her arteries to be clear, I think the outcome was the best possible given the extent of disease. And yes, they do not do anything for arteries that are less than 80-90%. I'm so glad she could have a stent.

It is true Betsi, women's symptoms are very different than men's. Diana, I would ask your mom if she ever had unexplained back, neck, or jaw pain, or any unexplained fatigue or weakness. She may not remember, but I'm betting that she had one or more of those symptoms at some point. They are all more common in women than the traditional chest pain.

Was so glad to see on FB that your Mom did great through the procedure and is doing great now. She is very lucky to be able to know her body and know when she should have something checked out. Wish everyone could be so atune to our bodies.

Now....go get yourself checked out...soon. Your family and friends love you!

The only time that Mom can remember having any problems was either last summer or the summer before (I can't remember). She had heat stroke really bad and it took her days to recover......maybe even weeks. I know that she was really tired after that. My guess is that it wasn't heat stroke but a heart attack........anyway, she's in much better shape now!! She went to work today......LOL She couldn't drive so Art drove her to work!!!

That is great Diana. It's just so amazing to me that something so serious can be done and then people are back to work the next day or the day after.

So glad to hear your mom is doing good. It is amazing that they can do these procedurs and then right back to work you go. Glad she had it done before any serious damage was done.

My thoughts are with you during this stressful time Diana. My uncle had a heart attack recently with no symptoms before it, when they opened him up, they found he needed a quadruple bypass because all his arteries were blocked. Your mom is lucky and so is my uncle to still be here with us

I'm so sorry about your uncle but thankfully they were able to help him. I so glad that this was caught before it got worse. My Mom is really good about taking care of herself. It has really made me realize that my Mom is getting older and I'm not ready for her to lose her health yet.
