We have a friend who got part of his nose shot off in Viet Nam. If he hears gunshots he hits the dirt and scrambles for cover. It's gotten to be kind of a sick sad joke... especially during hunting season. But that's PTSD for ya... if he could hold off long enough to think about where he's at and what time of year it is he'd probably ignore it like the rest of us. Yet his mind when he hears a gun shot instantly puts him back in time to the day he lost part of his nose and he drops before he has time to think.

After you typed it out then I knew what it was but my mind just went blank looking at the initials. That is so sad about your friend. I imagine that I'd be the same way, though, if I'd have been shot at in a war. I can't imagine what all they go through.
