They'll be home today!!!!!!!

The honeymooners will be home today. Their ship docks at 8 a.m. and they get off at 9:30. Sure hope they call. We'll be in Bible class and worship service from 9:00 til 11:15, but maybe they will leave a voicemail or text message. They will have about a 3 to 3-1/2 hour drive to their home. Melissa will be living about 5 to 10 minutes from her in-laws, but 2 hours from us. So this evening they will probably go to church and out to eat with them. So wish we could be there. Guess we will have to catch up by phone. Hopefully we can see them next weekend. Karen's birthday is July 9, so we may do something next weekend.

I'm so excited to hear all about their trip.

I organized their apartment a bit and cleaned Friday night and yesterday. I had promised Melissa I would do this so she would rest some the evening before the wedding. She did not want to walk into a mess when she got home.

I know you will be glad to see them. I wish them the best as they start their new life together.

They text messaged yesterday morning to say that they were off the ship and getting to their car. Then they texted again needing some directions. When I called back, they had found their way. They had a wonderful time. Their dive was really beautiful. They didn't talk long, and were headed home. We heard from them again when they got home. Two of Melissa's fish were sick. They were fine when I was there Saturday. I got a call from Melissa wanting to know where something was and saying that she thought the fish were dying. Later a text that they thought it was something bacterial and they had gotten something to treat the fish. Finally late last night, a text message that one of the fish had died.

These fish were at their wedding. The one that died is one Melissa has had for a couple of years. I know she's upset. She did thank me for cleaning their apartment.

Our conversations yesterday were very brief. When she called I was at a baby shower that I was helping to host.

Hopefully today we can catch up a bit. I know it's selfish and I'm feeling sorry for myself, but I don't like that her in-laws are 5 minutes away and we are 2 hours. I'm afraid that by the time we hear about the trip, it will be old news. I know they have already seen the in-laws, and probably told them all about it and they will be seeing all their friends this week.

I have a dear friend who had almost the same exact situation with her daughter when she first got married, she understands my feelings, and talking with her is helping a lot. Her daughter lived 5 minutes from her inlaws, and my friend was 2 hours away for the first 2 years of their marriage.

Marilyn glad to hear that the newylweds are back from their honeymoon. I bet you can't wait to hear all about it I am sure that they had a great time.

I can understand about the way that your feeling about them living 5 min away from in-laws and two hrs. from you. That is normal to feel a little jealously. But remember Marilyn you are her mother and no matter what she will always have that special relationship with you. Her in laws may be wonderful, and hopefully they treat her like a daughter for you would want that being she is living a distance from you. In time I am sure that you will be living closer to each other.

So please be happy and you will soon hear everything detail of the honeymoon.. oh well not every detail...lol and you will have your daughter back plus a son.

PS sorry about the fish.

I agree with Gina, Marilyn. You have to learn to "share" your daughter with the other family. Be happy for the times that they have together and encouraging. (Even though sometimes it's really, really hard to do.) If you develop a good relationship with his mother she'll be more willing to cooperate with you on holidays and your own gatherings. It's definitely give and take!

Glad they made it back and had a great time. And remember that saying....a daughter is a daughter all of her life, but a son is a son till he takes a wife. From where I sit...you have it made. You have been close to your daughter and I'm sure it will remain the same.

Oh, ladies, I know that we will remain close, and I do sincerely hope she has a wonderful relationship with her inlaws. Her father-in-law is especially sweet to her & I can see that he truly cares. I was just being honest with my dear friends here on 4WT. Part of me is jealous. I can't help it, and I think it's best to express those feelings with my closest friends and not so much with my daughter. She did call and talk for a bit today. I know it's their first full day back from their honeymoon, and they have lots to do. Our new son-in-law had his run through of his endurance test to get into the fire academy today and he passed, so one more hurdle behind them.

Three of the fish have died now, two of her special fantails and an algae eater. She has two fantails left, and they are both sick. She doesn't expect them to make it. We just don't understand how this happened so fast. They were fine when I was there Saturday, and now three of her 5 fish have died. What a horrible thing to come home to.

I've been going above and beyond on this one, bending over backwards to be nice, inclusive and complementary. This is going to take very ounce of political savy, tongue biting and niceness that I can muster. It will be a challenge to say the least. I've been praying a lot about it. For me and for her.

You can vent, share or whatever you need to do here Marilyn. We're here for you and will do what ever we can to help. If the truth was to be told Marilyn...she's probably just as jealous of you.

Now they're home, and the marriage really begins. They had a wonderful start
with the beautiful wedding and wonderful honeymoon. My prayers that they have a long and joyful life together.

I'm sorry about her fish.

You're such a good Mom, cleaning her house so that they can come home and relax.

Jessie lived 5 minutes away from her in-laws, and about an hour away from me.
I hated it, was jealous, and then I slowly got over it. I was always so happy because my grandchildren clearly love me more than Steve's mom. How mean
of me!

Anyway, the table has turned now. I'll be near them and his folks about 4 hours away. (And the children still love me more). I'm not being mean anymore. It is what it is. She's really a lovely woman.
