I can't believe she has that website....has she no shame at all? I see it too Marilyn....people in stores looking like they should be shopping in Beverly Hills and then are using food stamps, cashing welfare checks...etc. Takes gall....that's all I can say.

One of her children has autism, one is showing signs of autism, and there is another that has another disability that I can't remember right now. She is getting money for those three for disabilities. There is also a very high risk of any or all of the octuplets developing cerebral palsy.

This picture is supposedly 8 days before the babies were born! I wonder how much she got paid for that. I imagined she'd be bigger. I've seen pictures of Kate Gosselin and her belly was wrapped to hold it in and eventhough she had 6, they were bigger.

OMGosh! I just can't believe the things that are coming out about this woman!! I saw her nails but didn't realize that they were really expensive to have. That really looks bad and then.....to ask for donations to help her raise her kids!!! Actually, we're going to be paying for them anyway!! This is sheer stupidity all the way around!!!! She is ranking right up there with the CEO's who got government bail-out money and went to a spa for the weekend!!!

In one of the pic's you can see her nails. I don't get solar or acrylic nails due to the cost and time to maintain. Nothing against them for people who can afford them and for people who just get a real boost by having nice nails, but unless someone just gave her this as a treat, I don't think this is something she can afford. Don't mean to be catty, but this is something I see from time to time at the grocery. Designer jeans, tipped nails and food stamps.

your right when I lived in nyc certain groups were on food stamps shopping with their minks... that drove me crazy... Getting back to this woman I saw the today show and they said it cost over a million dollars a year to raise 8 children. How is she going to support 14..

Let's see........there will be welfare.......food stamps.........medical cards. She won't be able to work because she could never afford to pay a sitter. Working from home won't work because have you ever tried to do anything with even one child at home, let alone 14? Maybe in 5-6 years, she could get a part-time job and work while the kids are at school. Didn't she mention somewhere that she was planning on getting a good job and was going to be able to pay for all of this? By the time the kids get big enough for her to be able to work she's going to be at least $5-6 million in the hole, if it costs a million dollars a year to raise them. Somebody didn't think this through very well!!!

Dr. Phil had a show about this yesterday. He had a panel of doctors, a medical ethicist, her PR person (yes - public relations!), and I don't remember who else.

All in all, the consensus was that she, according to the medical ethicist, is not considered able to make a rational decision. There are certain requirements that she doesn't meet. They use these definitions when deciding on who should be in charge of a patient's medical decisions. The plastic surgeon thinks that she has had quite a bit of plastic surgery - certainly a nose job and her lips done. The pediatrician said that these poor babies are very prone to developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, and more. The fertility specialist said that her doctor is totally not doing things the way they are supposed to be done. The most they implant are 2 embryos. Since she has had successful in vitro before, 8 embryos were totally unnecessary. She was not asked before the procedure if she wanted to reduce the number of embryos after it was seen how many were viable. She certainly did not want to do that.

The big point though was that whatever her reasons, what's done is done. Dr. Phil and the others feel that the reality is that there are now fourteen children and a very unstable, selfish mother, and that we have to band together and be sure that they get what they need. He also thinks that the mother needs psychological help (DUH) so that she can parent her children. It was agreed that to keep them as an intact family is the best for the children.

I know it will cost us money as taxpayers, but I do agree with him. I am angry at her, at the doctor, and just at the craziness of the things that are seemingly acceptable these days. For example, what will happen to all those adopted children when Brangelina get divorced? People have children because they want them without considering that a father and mother make a better environment for children to grow up in. If a woman gets pregnant by accident, okay - but so many women have 3 or 4 children by different men without concerning themselves a bit. They collect then welfare, food stamps, etc. And so on....

However, like I said, I do agree that it is what it is, and now there are 14 children who need to be cared for. We are probably going to have to bite the bullet and pay for this, which is not fair. But, I personally feel that in the end, we are all responsible for each other.

Just my opinion by the way. Nobody had to agree with me!

The best and most judicial outcome, in my mind, would be for the mother to sue the fertility doctor and live off what she collects. They seem to deserve each other.

I wanted to see that show and didn't get to. Even though I don't want to bite the bullet....I agree with you. That was really a good post Judy.

I agree Judy and Janet. After all the initial shock of this craziness, the bottomline is that it's 14 children who need care. It really doesn't matter if it's 14 separate children or 14 from one mother!

Honestly, I feel sorry for this lady. I truly think she has borderline or narcissistic personality disorder. There is no cure and life is always drama for those who suffer from either of these conditions. I certainly wouldn't want a life like that. Imagine PMS all the time, only more dramatic. And always needing attention.

And those poor children. Who knows what mental and emotional problems they will face.

As for the "tax money," I get far more upset about other wasteful spending than this. No matter the circumstances, I wouldn't want these children to starve. They didn't ask to be in this situation. At work today, I learned that people on TNCare (TN's access health care plan) can get gastric by-pass surgery covered. I understand if it is a medical necessity, but many times it is purely cosmetic. I can think of much more useful ways to use that $50k, especially considering the numerous needs of the families I deal with every day.

Oh, and the Commissioner of the DEA recently chartered a private jet for $123,000 (in tax money) to fly to Columbia even though the agency has 106 planes in it's very own aviation division. But you rarely (if ever) see angry threads when rich CEOs and Administrators throw away tax money. Go figure.

I fell asleep in the middle of Dr. Phil. I do not think he will reach her. She did say that she only wanted one child, never planned for 8, and that, yes, if she had planned for 8, she would be crazy.

I don't think there is anything to reach. I have to agree with Angie. I don't know how to diagnose, but she does seem narcissistic to me. There is no change in their perspective to be expected, and they are extremely difficult to deal with. They are selfish, irresponsible, and the world begins and ends only with their own needs. They are easy to dislike and make people who are near to them angry.

I do think that the children need to be taken care of. I also feel that to remove them from their mother is not the best solution for them. She does love her children, and they seem to be bright and verbal. Three of them have disabilities, and who knows about the babies yet?

If we can help rehabilitate abusive people, house and feed rapists and murders in prison, then we can certainly help these children.
