I almost stepped on a 5' chicken snake last Thursday morning (crawling on the driveway, into the garage) and almost picked up a 2' copperhead last Saturday morning (on our front porch where I was stacking some donation bags). I HATE snakes and that last one has really set me off. I'm carrying my hiking pole every time I go outside. I'll take care of the rats myself.
